Job summary

Personalis, Inc. in Fremont, California, is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist to support diagnostic testing in a fast-paced, collaborative lab environment.

You will perform and report clinical lab testing, including next generation sequencing workflows, manual DNA/RNA extractions, and library preparation, while coordinating with lab assistants on pre- and post-analytical tasks. Onsite five days a week with rotating shifts; shift premiums apply for PM.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in sciences or related disciplines.
• California CLS license OR CGMBS license.
• 0–4 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Experience with manual DNA/RNA extractions, manual library prep and microtome is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Maintain updated understanding of lab methods and physician use of information through education.
• Supervise lab activities in the absence of an onsite manager.
• Identify problems that may affect test performance or reporting and address or escalate.
• Support licensure activities, quality management and on-site inspections.
• Train CLS personnel and supervise non-licensed staff as needed.
• Follow policies, quality control and documentation requirements.
• Assist in assay development activities when required.
• Perform other duties as required.

Job description

At Personalis, we are transforming the active management of cancer through breakthrough personalized testing. Our products are designed to detect minimal residual disease (MRD) and recurrence at the earliest timepoints, enable selection of targeted therapies based on ultra-comprehensive genomic profiling, and enhance biomarker strategy for drug development. Personalis is based in Fremont, California.

We offer a dynamic atmosphere where you will have the opportunity to work on benches such as extractions, Library prep, and sequencing. You will also partner with our lab assistants and coordinate with them on pre-analytical & post analytical tasks.

Our Clinical Lab Scientists perform and report clinical lab testing on samples used by physicians in the diagnostic and treatment of patients. This will entail following the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and next generation sequencing processes, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.

Onsite: 5 days a week

Available Shifts:

Friday - Tuesday, 6:00am - 2:30pm (AM Shift) - 2 openings

Friday - Tuesday, 2:00pm - 10:30pm (PM Shift) - 1 opening

Tuesday - Saturday, 6:00am - 2:30pm (AM Shift) - 1 opening Tuesday - Saturday, 2:00pm - 10:30pm (PM Shift) - 2 openings

Training hours may be at different shifts.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain updated understanding and knowledge of the methods employed in the lab and the use of the resulting information by physicians through continuing education activities
• Supervise the activities of the lab in the absence of an onsite manager
• Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or notify management
• Participate in activities which support all necessary licensure for the clinical laboratory, including quality management functions and on-site inspections of the laboratory
• Trains other CLS personnel and other staff in laboratory methods. Monitor the activities of non-licensed personnel as needed
• Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures, quality control policies and activities including required documentation necessary to ensure compliance
• May be required to assist in assay development activities
• Other duties as required

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in sciences or related disciplines
• California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license OR CGMBS license
• 0-4 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting
• Beneficial to have experience with manual DNA/RNA extractions, manual library prep and working with a microtome

The hiring range for this position is $56.25 to $66.00 per hour, which may factor in various geographic regions. The PM shift would be eligible for an additional shift premium.
