Job summary

Northside Hospital Inc. in Georgia offers a training residency designed to prepare individuals to gain MLS/CLS/MT certification. Residents will work under supervision to provide technical and non-technical laboratory services and gain hands-on experience across laboratory disciplines.

The program includes 3 months in a chosen specialty (Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Blood Banking) or a generalist track for one year, with eligibility to apply for certification exams accordingly.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical or biological science is required.
• Ability to perform clinical laboratory procedures according to proper standards and regulations.
• Must submit to a Color-Acuity screening Test

Responsibilities

• Adhere to requirements set forth in the curriculum to meet certification eligibility at the conclusion of program.
• Operates laboratory equipment and reviews and assists in performing specimen testing under supervision.
• Performs laboratory tests and investigates and troubleshoots test results and/or system.
• Supports departmental QA program by performing and documenting quality control and preventative maintenance; investigates and documents QC or instrument maintenance problems.
• Complies with positive patient identification procedures to ensure specimen integrity across pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical testing.
• Performs clerical duties to initiate processing of specimens and reporting of results, including collection, labeling, handling, and storage.
• Communicates with other departments and staff to facilitate workflow and quality of lab work; distributes information stored in LIS.
• Keeps work area clean, stocked and organized; uses and maintains tools and equipment per policies.
• Adheres to HIPAA and patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations.
• Practices proper safety techniques and reports any malfunctions or injuries to a supervisor.
