Job summary

Ochsner Health in New Orleans, LA, seeks a Laboratory Assistant or Trainee to support the department with phlebotomy, specimen processing, LIS entry, QA/QC, and inventory management. The role requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and current Louisiana Laboratory Assistant license or trainee status, with 180 days to obtain full licensure.

Preferred phlebotomy training and hospital experience are a plus. Rotating days and weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Current Louisiana Laboratory Assistant license or trainee status; trainee license valid for 180 days.
• Preferred formal phlebotomy training.
• Experience in a controlled environment with safety measures a plus.
• Proficiency with lab computers and data entry; ability to read basic math and use Windows apps.

Responsibilities

• Performs specimen collection.
• Processes orders and prepares specimens for testing.
• Performs patient testing and specimen setup.
• Performs and documents quality control; adheres to educational requirements.
• Orders, inventories and stocks supplies.
• Adapts communication to patient population and maintains privacy.
• Other related duties as required.
