Job summary

Hemphill County Hospital District in the United States seeks a Clinical Laboratory Assistant to assist the Laboratory Manager with specimen collection, registration, order entry and limited testing, ensuring patient and customer satisfaction.

You will obtain specimens, perform phlebotomy as needed, process and label samples, and forward reports to physicians while maintaining HIPAA confidentiality and high quality care across age groups.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; phlebotomy training completed.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred but not required.
  • Two years of high complexity testing experience in a medical laboratory or CLIA supervisory qualification is preferred.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the Clinical Laboratory Assistant, specimen collection, registration, order entry, limited specimen testing, patient and customer satisfaction, courier specimens if needed.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Obtains specimens from patients.
  • Provide phlebotomy service externally as needed.
  • DOT/NON-DOT urine drug screen collection.
  • Reviews and follows requests for tests and procedures prescribed by physicians.
  • Draws and processes specimens promptly and in compliance with established procedure.
  • Registers and orders provider’s orders for patients.
  • Identifies and labels specimens.
  • Forward completed lab reports to physicians or other facilities by fax or mail.
  • Provides care appropriate for the neonate and the pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Assesses and interprets data on neonate and the pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients’ status to identify patients’ requirements relative to their age-specific needs and provides care needed as stipulated in departmental policy.
  • Follows the established procedures for routine lab testing.
  • Follows the established protocols for CLIA waived testing.
  • Follows quality control procedures for CLIA waived tests.
  • Reviews accuracy of results before reporting.
  • Cleans work area.
  • Maintains a level of stock for operation (venipuncture supplies, clerical supplies)
Other Requirements:
  • Performs other duties as assigned as supervisor or designee
  • Maintains HIPAA required and all other confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
  • Provides service direct to patients while maintaining a positive patient relations atmosphere.
  • Follows procedures for using precautions when involved in direct patient contact or when handling potentially infectious materials.
  • Follows safety guidelines and policies for the Hospital District.

ALL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS MUST BE PERFORMED CONSISTENT WITH THE HCHD PERFORMANCE STANDARDS.
