Responsibilities

• Specimen processing: registers patients, orders tests, verifies information and ensures timely specimen handling to keep workflow accurate and efficient.
• Evaluates and prepares specimens for testing, ensuring proper labeling, distribution, storage, and processing per guidelines.
• Assists with loading of samples and maintenance of laboratory equipment, and follows procedures to operate and troubleshoot instruments.
• Maintains temperature logs, keeps workspace clean and organized, and supports equipment troubleshooting and escalation as needed.
• Monitors and manages supply inventory, checks expiration dates, stores items, and keeps storage areas orderly.
• Demonstrates proficiency in HIS and LIS software applications for job-related functions.
• Assists with training of new teammates or students and completes mandatory continuing education.
• Follows PPE protocols and maintains a safe, clean work environment.
• Adheres to approved standard operating policies and procedures for document control.

Job Summary Details:

Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Clinical Lab Assistant (CLA) ensures timely workflow, maintains proper documentation, follows safety and compliance protocols and provides widespread support across laboratory departments.

Job Responsibilities / Essential Functions

• Specimen Processing:
  • Performs patient registration and test ordering, verifies patient information, ensures timely specimen handling, and resolves processing issues to maintain accuracy and efficient workflow.
  • Evaluates and prepares specimens for testing, ensuring proper labeling, distribution, storage, and processing according to established guidelines.
• Equipment:
  • Assists technical Team Members by performing duties assigned in loading of samples, performing maintenance.
  • Operates laboratory equipment according to procedures, troubleshoots issues or contacts support, documents temperatures, and maintains a clean, organized workspace as required.
• Inventory Management: Monitors and manages supply inventory, checks expiration dates, stores received items and keeps the storage areas clean and organized.
• System Utilization: Demonstrates proficiency in the use of HIS and LIS software applications for job-related functions.
• Training and Education: Assists with training of new team members or students as required. Completes mandatory continuing education.
• Safety: Follows PPE protocols and ensures a clean, safe workspace.
• Document Control: Follows all approved standard operating policies and procedures.
