Job summary

Saint Mary’s Health Network in Reno, NV is seeking a Lab Assistant to support a busy clinical laboratory. Responsibilities include clerical duties, patient greeting, and specimen collection across neonatal to geriatric care. Strong communication and phlebotomy skills are essential for this role.

The position requires English fluency, the ability to work nights, and eligibility for Nevada Lab Assistant licensure within six months. Training will include POS/POC responsibilities and SOP compliance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English.
• Ability to work and problem solve independently preferred.
• Flexibility to work any shift as needed preferred.
• Candidates must be eligible for Lab Assistant licensure by the State of Nevada within six months.
• Certification obtained as a Lab Assistant from a National or State accredited venipuncture program within the past 12 months or 12 months experience as licensed phlebotomist
• Must obtain Point of Care (POC) licensure within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs computer entry, filing, telephone communication and other clerical duties.
• Greet patients and visitors in a polite and friendly manner.
• Possesses good communication skills and knowledge of laboratory test terminology.
• Performs arterial, venipuncture and capillary draws.
• Train new employees and students.
• Follow all SOPs and departmental policies.
