Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant II to support phlebotomy and sample processing within Laboratory Services. You will perform phlebotomy (as assigned), handle specimen management, and ensure accurate patient registration and data in the system.

The role requires at least two years of related experience and a valid Texas driver’s license. Preferred certifications include ASCP/ACA/AMT/NCCT/NHA, with possible advancement based on education and performance.

Qualifications

• Two years related experience.
• Phlebotomy course or experience preferred.
• ASCP/ACA/AMT/NCCT/NHA certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy or other clinical duties as assigned.
• Performs computer functions for patient registration, blood collection, and specimen management.
• Determines acceptability of patient samples.
• Prepares, stores, and transfers samples for testing.
• Maintains records of inventory, maintenance, and daily quality control.
• May provide training and assess competency for staff.
