UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX, seeks an Allied Health professional for cytogenetics with a high school diploma or equivalent and laboratory experience. The role involves handling specimens, managing LIS, and ensuring proper storage and confidentiality of samples.

Preferred candidates may have some college coursework and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, teamwork, and reliable adherence to protocols in a fast-paced clinical lab setting.

2 years of related laboratory experience preferred.
Related college laboratory classes may be accepted in lieu of experience.

Responsibilities

Handle and process specimens according to departmental protocols.
Perform specimen management, accessioning into LIS, and basic technical tasks.
Store and manage specimens following retention protocols and ensure accurate identification.
Confirm specimens are properly prepared and submitted to testing departments.
Answer telephone inquiries and provide verified test results per LIS.
Establish priorities and complete functions within set timeframes.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Duties

Handle and process specimens according to departmental protocols.
Peform the following duties: specimen management (receive specimens from phlebotomists and nursing floors); specimen accession into LIS; prepare specimens for testing; basic technical tasks (placing samples in automated analyzer, streak culture plates, etc.); submit specimens to testing department; store and manage specimens according to retention protocols.
Maintain accurate and easy-to-use specimen storage systems. Monitor and maintain accurate patient identification and confidentiality for all samples in accordance with departmental protocol.
Ensure specimens sent to reference laboratories are submitted to referral department in a timely manner.
Answer telephone inquiries and provide verified test result information per the LIS system.
Establish priorities and organize activities to achieve optimum and efficient results. Complete assigned functions in appropriate time intervals.
Perform other duties as assigned.
