Job summary

DLH is seeking a Scientific Programmer to support the National Institute on Aging (NIA) IT Division. You will develop robust, secure applications within a DevSecOps‑based Agile framework, collaborating with clinicians, researchers, and vendors to support clinical data collection, management, and integration across IRP sites.

The role requires deep expertise in HL7, DICOM, PACS, and multiple database platforms, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, and SQL Server.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, CS, Bioinformatics, Health Information, or related field.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in clinical application programming or health IT systems development.
  • Proficiency with HL7, DICOM, and PACS.
  • Experience developing application backends using Perl, PHP, or Ruby with PostgreSQL/MySQL backing SQL servers.
  • Experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Proficiency with Git.
  • Experience with Puppet.
  • Experience with DevSecOps-based Agile development.
  • Familiarity with OWASP and US-CERT guidelines.
  • Experience in laboratory sciences and familiarity with Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Unix, and related systems.
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, code, debug, and implement stand‑alone, web‑based, and multi‑tier applications for IRP, NIA.
  • Utilize Perl, PHP, and Ruby with PostgreSQL/MySQL backends.
  • Utilize HL7, DICOM, and PACS protocols in development and support.
  • Use Git and related tools to document applications over time.
  • Work with Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, and SQL Server databases.
  • Follow DevSecOps guidelines with iterative deployments.
  • Establish requirements engineering and verifications per standards.
  • Support diverse NIA IRP laboratories and clinical IT systems.
  • Provide independent maintenance and design of new projects.
  • Manage configuration with Puppet and promote security practices.
