Job summary

Job description

Shift:

Primarily 1st shift (Day shift). Weekend, call, and holiday rotation required.

Hours:

We are open to candidates seeking part-time (20 hours per week) or full-time (40 hours per week)

Major Responsibilities:
  • Oversees radiology student activities and training in the clinical setting.
  • Prepares and maintains assigned educational phases of the student program within the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accreditation agency standards; promotes appropriate standards of quality for education in radiologic technology as set forth by JRCERT.
  • Instructs students in applying the theory of radiography to the practical "hands on" aspects of radiology. In that capacity must proficiently perform basic to advanced radiologic procedures with the ability to demonstrate those skills to student radiographers, position patients and select appropriate exposure factors, adhere to principals of ALARA to ensure safety of patients, staff, students and the public, and perform various patient positioning and transporting duties.
  • Acts as a role model by promoting high quality technical skills, effective interpersonal skills, teamwork and a positive work environment.
  • Provides student evaluations through testing, observation, and/or staff communication and feedback.
  • Maintains student records as required by JRCERT.
  • Participates in the radiology program outcome assessment, collects data, and offers suggestions for continual program improvement.
  • Enforces program policies in the clinical environment.
  • Promotes the profession by providing in-service presentations to registered technologists, other medical professional groups within the organization, and student and professional groups outside the medical center.
  • May provide didactic instruction in specific area(s) of expertise.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
  • Radiography (R) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and
  • Radiographer license issued by the state of Illinois.
Education Required:
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiography.
Experience Required:
  • Typically requires 2 years of experience in the professional discipline.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and supervise student radiographers.
  • Qualified to teach assigned subject area.
  • Knowledgeable of program mission, goals and policies.
  • Understand the clinical objectives and clinical evaluation system.
  • Maintain competency in the professional discipline through continuing professional development and pursuit of scholarly activities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the duties of the job.
  • Must be able to stand for up to 60% of the day.
  • Must be able to walk, lift, squat, bend, and twist.
  • Frequently lifts up to 35 lbs. Occasionally lifts over 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Must be able to use hands and feet to operate equipment.
  • Must have clear speech and good vision and hearing.
  • Will be exposed to chemicals and radiation.
  • Must wear protective clothing (i.e. lead aprons, isolation gowns, protective eyewear, etc.) as needed.
