Job Description

The College of Veterinary Medicine at MU is dedicated to educating and training outstanding clinicians and scientists, generating new knowledge, engaging stakeholders, and fostering economic growth to protect the health and welfare of animals and people.

We are seeking a Clinical Instructor or NTT Faculty to join our Small Animal Community Practice section in a 0.8 FTE position. The Community Practice provides comprehensive primary and preventative veterinary medical care for companion animals while supporting the teaching, training, and mentorship of veterinary students within a Veterinary Health Center.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality small animal primary and preventative veterinary care, including examinations, diagnostics, treatment planning, routine procedures, and accurate medical record documentation.
• Participate in clinical teaching by supervising and mentoring veterinary students, modeling professional conduct, and providing case-based instruction and feedback.
• Communicate effectively with clients and collaborate with Veterinary Health Center faculty and staff to ensure coordinated patient care and a positive client experience.
• Contribute to the professional and graduate curriculum by participating in classroom and laboratory instruction. Opportunities for online instruction are possible.
• Represent the University, College, and VHC through outreach activities for the animal‑owning public, referring veterinarians, and other stakeholders.
• Participate in scholarly activities such as research, professional development, publication of book chapters, case reports, or client‑oriented educational publications, and continuing‑education opportunities for the veterinary medical community and the general public.
• Contribute to and participate in college, departmental, and hospital governance and service through committee work and other activities.

Position Details

This is a 0.8 FTE position, with the expectation of working 4 days per week. The position is benefit eligible and offers a 12‑month/year appointment. Distribution of effort among teaching, research, and service will depend on the career goals of the selected candidate and the needs of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

• Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or an equivalent degree (e.g., VMD, BVSc).

Additional Qualifications

• Prior experience in small animal community practice, primary care, or general practice.
• Diplomate status or eligibility for board certification in an area of small animal medicine (e.g., ABVP – Canine & Feline; ACVPM) or advanced graduate training beyond a DVM, such as an MPH or MS, is highly desirable.
• Eligibility for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Missouri and DEA registration; BNDD certificate and USDA accreditation (Small Animal) required.
• Professional, residency, and/or graduate training.
• Educational and professional achievement, career goals, and alignment with the needs of the college.
