Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, based in Seattle, seeks a Clinical Histotechnician I - Certified for a Per Diem role. You will produce high-quality histology work, interact with Pathology Managers and Pathologists, and support bone marrow transplant and hematology pathology services.

The laboratory operates Mon–Sat, 4am–11pm; the position offers call duties and per diem compensation with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology per CLIA requirements.
  • HT (ASCP) certification is required.
  • Strong color vision and meticulous data handling are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and process specimens promptly according to protocol.
  • Prepare specimens using paraffin, frozen sections, and cytocentrifugation; section on a microtome.
  • Perform routine and special histochemical stains; immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization.
  • Maintain reagents and equipment; manage tissue blocks and slides.
  • Handle inventory, order supplies, and complete maintenance duties for IHC area.

The Fred Hutch Pathology Laboratory performs comprehensive diagnostic pathology services and specialized procedures, such as special staining, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization. The department supports the bone marrow transplant, hematology, and heme malignancies populations of Fred Hutch

The Clinical Histotechnician I - Certified is responsible for producing high quality histology work for patients and clients. A Clinical Histotechnician I - Certified position requires close interaction with the Pathology Manager and Pathologists.

The laboratory is open Monday-Saturday, 4am - 11pm. This position is a Per Diem role with no pre-scheduled hours, but may be called to work during the lab's operational hours.

Responsibilities
  • Receive, accession, and process various specimens according to protocol and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare specimens using various methods including paraffin sections, frozen sections, and cytocentrifugation. Section specimens on a microtome.
  • Perform various routine and special stain histochemical procedures.
  • Perform Immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization.
  • Prepare reagents, maintain laboratory equipment, record data, and file tissue blocks and slides.
  • Assume responsibility for reagent and supply inventories; order supplies in a timely manner.
  • Complete in a timely manner all assigned maintenance duties related to the IHC area and equipment.
  • Perform all duties related to on-call work.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or equivalent education and training as defined in 42CFR493.1489(b)(3)(ii). Must meet the CLIA education requirements for a high complexity testing.

  • Must be able to differentiate between colors and pass a standardized color vision screen to perform this role

The hourly pay range for this position is from $35.94 to $51.18, which includes the per diem differential, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees access to a retirement savings plan, an employee assistance program, and paid sick leave (1 hour for every 30 hours worked).
