Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking an Ambulatory Clinical Engineering Technician II to maintain advanced medical equipment across regional sites. You will diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance under direction from the Clinical Engineering leadership, while ensuring compliance with policies and manufacturer specifications.

The role requires travel between MedStar Health sites, on-call rotation, and strong documentation in the CMMS.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics or related field.
  • Military work/training aligned with AAMI Core Competencies or equivalent experience.
  • 3–4 years of repair and maintenance of medical equipment and systems.
  • 1–2 years driving a motor vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to support requests, diagnose, repair, and close issues per SLA.
  • Travel regionally to MedStar Health sites to maintain equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance per schedule and document results.
  • Inspect and test equipment, ensuring safety and accuracy for continued use.
  • Document work in CMMS and provide monthly reports as needed.
  • Provide training and support to staff on equipment operation.

About the Job

Under the general direction of the Clinical Engineering leadership team the Ambulatory Clinical Engineering (CE) Technician II primarily travels regionally to various MedStar Health sites maintaining clinical equipment and systems considered to be advanced specialty highly sophisticated integrated technology or requiring manufacturer service training or certification through the effective use of the medical equipment management plan while adhering to all medical equipment policies and procedures and manufacturer or alternative equipment maintenance (AEM) specifications. Performs a variety of tasks associated with the installation testing maintenance calibration and repair of medical equipment and systems.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Primarily responds to support requests. Diagnoses resolves and closes issues involving medical equipment and systems according to service level guidelines. Takes part in on-call rotation covering after-hours and weekends.
  • Drives daily to various regional MedStar Health sites to maintain clinical equipment.
  • Ensures that preventative maintenance is promptly performed accordingly to the established schedule. Makes daily rounds to assure proper operation of medical equipment and systems while correcting any deviations.
  • Orders parts receives inventories assembles inspects and tests equipment and documents results. Coordinates efforts with supervisor and/or experienced technicians as appropriate.
  • Inspects and tests electronic electromechanical and mechanical medical and scientific equipment according to specific test procedures. Verifies equipment safety and accuracy for continued use.
  • Documents all work performed in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Ensures documentation is accurate complete and timely. Provides monthly reports as needed.
  • Provides clear concise and timely follow up with colleagues ensuring they know the status of work being performed on their equipment. Provides technical in-service or instruction to facility staff in proper operation of patient care equipment on an as-needed basis.
  • Provides basic support of acuity equipment for direct patient care.
  • Reviews department/unit operations manual to ensure compliance with applicable Joint Commission standards federal and state regulations accepted Standards of Conduct and the Corporate Compliance Program.
  • Complies with all MedStar Health Policies and Procedures Corporate Compliance Program Standards of Conduct and all applicable statutes rules and regulations.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas. Maintains department facilities equipment and materials in a condition that promotes efficiency health comfort and safety of patients and staff.
  • Proactively suggests improvement ideas to simplify processes and assists in policy or procedure implementation
Minimal Qualifications
Education
  • Associate's degree Biomedical equipment technology electronics or related field required
  • related military work/training in mechanical or electrical engineering or academic work or actual work experience aligned with AAMI's Core Competencies for the Biomedical Equipment Technician. required
Experience
  • 3-4 years years experience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment and systems. required
  • 1-2 years Experience driving a motor vehicle. required
Licenses and Certifications
  • DL - Valid State Driver's License in good standing required
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic electricity/electronics principles.
  • Requires a good driving record
  • Ability to anticipate tasks and prioritize assignments.
  • Ability to input data into computer programs.
  • Ability to travel between sites as necessary.
  • Ability to work with all levels of internal and external customers. Knowledge of basic electricity/electronics principles. Knowledge of ambulatory hospital and hospitals department procedures and operations.
  • Knowledge of word processing spreadsheet and database software.
  • Provides excellent hospitable customer service.
  • Skilled in the use of basic hand tools and testing equipment.
  • Ability to communicate professionally.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission and other regulatory agency's accreditation requirements.
  • May be required to drive long distance to MedStar Health locations.
