Job summary

Kingman Regional Medical Center is seeking a Clinical Educator in Surgical Services to lead regulatory compliant, quality improvement projects and enhance nursing outcomes.

Responsibilities include developing orientation programs, coordinating in‑service training, ensuring AORN/ANSI guidelines, and rounds to promote patient safety and education across the department. Requires perioperative experience and CNOR preferred.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology, First Assisting, or Nursing Program.
  • Five years perioperative experience with demonstrated excellence in the field.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications through AHA or Red Cross.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in regulatory compliant, quality improvement projects to promote improved nursing-sensitive patient outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain electronic applications to meet Surgical Services needs with Nursing Leadership and HIT.
  • Develops a standardized orientation program to promote successful staff integration.
  • Oversees new staff competencies and individualizes training plans with Nursing Leadership.
  • Maintains updated yearly competency documentation for staff.
  • Evaluates educational needs within the department and addresses training opportunities.
  • Coordinate all mandated in‑service programs to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Establish patient teaching guidelines and collaborate with Nursing Leadership for staff education.
  • Perform rounds to ensure adherence to AORN, SGNA, ASPAN, ANSI, HSPA, AAMI guidelines.

Position Purpose

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilizing the roles of educator, consultant, researcher and leader in collaboration with Leadership, the Clinical Educator will actively participate in regulatory compliant, quality improvement projects to promote improved nursing-sensitive, patient outcomes.
  • In a secondary role, this position has responsibilities for the development and maintenance of electronic applications necessary to meet the needs of Surgical Services for improved patient safety and care delivery efficiency through collaboration with Nursing Leadership and Health Information Technology (HIT).
  • Develops a standardized orientation program to promote successful integration of staff into their designated roles in the department.
  • Oversees new staff competencies throughout the orientation process and individualizes training pathways based on learning needs and scope of practice in collaboration with Nursing Leadership.
  • Maintains updated documentation on yearly competencies for departmental staff.
  • Evaluates educational needs within the department and addresses individual and/or unit specific training opportunities.
  • Provides and/or coordinates all mandated in‑service programs to maintain compliance with applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Establishes patient teaching guidelines and assists staff in provision of education through collaboration with Nursing Leadership.
  • Responsible for making rounds throughout the Surgical Services department to ensure the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA), American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN), American National Standards Institute’s guidelines for the Safe Use of Lasers (ANSI), Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), and Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) best practice guidelines are followed.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to meet educational needs of staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of department and organization.
Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology, First Assisting, or Nursing Program.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years perioperative experience with demonstrated excellence in the field.
  • Certification: BLS, ACLS, and PALS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • License: Current, valid Arizona licensure or compact RN license, if RN.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to accept and implement change.
    • Evidence of continuing professional growth with membership in a professional nursing organization; Knowledge of electronic documentation systems and computer expertise.
Preferences
  • Certification: Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR).
Special Position Requirements

Exposure Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.

Work Requirements
  • Able to assist with the movement of an adult patient weighing up to 300 lbs.
  • Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.
  • Ability to sit for 3-5 hours per day.
  • Able to stand for 3-5 hours per day.
  • Ability to walk for 3-5 hours per day.
