Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Works with managers, directors, staff and physicians to implement and evaluate professional education courses/programs for healthcare professionals.Accountable for clinical practice educational initiatives to guide the transition of knowledge of various care providers into clinical bedside practice. Interprets and adheres to the American Nurses Credentialing Center, Nebraska Nurses Association, Nebraska State Board of Nursing requirements to ensure program provision standards are met.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. *Commits to the mission,vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

  1. *As assigned by the Clinical Education and Professional Development Manager, works independently or with planning committee to coordinate courses/programs that range from entry level to advanced nursing continuing education.

  1. *Designs, coordinates and facilitates comprehensive orientation programs which support integration and success in the clinical environment.

  1. *Coordinates program for internal and external professional customers in alignment with the organization’s mission & vision, goals, priorities and resources while adhering to the appropriate credentialing criteria.

  1. Maintains learning management system denoting employee participation in courses/programs, progress toward certification requirements and clinical practice progress of new orientees.

  1. *Provides an appropriate climate for learning, models appropriate adult learning principles to promote individual or group mastery of competencies and conveys nursing principles accurately and concisely in classroom and clinical settings.

  1. Participates in employee education initiatives through developing education plans.

  1. May serve as a nurse planner in committees planning nursing continuing education programs.

  1. *Participates in appropriate committees and collaborates with other Bryan staff to promote a high standard of care by licensed and non‑licensed staff; participates in the development of department and organization procedures; supports department and organization decisions.

  1. *Provides ongoing evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of the educational activities to ensure they maintain and enhance professional development.

  1. *Participates in the ongoing development of unit skills, knowledge and competencies for nursing.

  1. Assumes responsibility in shared, delegated, or collaborative assignments; leads and participates on planning committees/focus groups for nursing education needs/goals.

  1. Attends all mandatory professional development inservices; obtains and maintains expertise to support position.

  1. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

  1. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

  1. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  1. Knowledge of the principles of nursing theory and clinical applications.

  1. Knowledge of credentialing requirements for nursing.

  1. Knowledge of nursing continuing education requirements in Nebraska.

  1. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

  1. Skill in the operation of instructional media and communication/information devices.

  1. Skill in effective meeting management and facilitation.

  1. Ability to incorporate adult learning principles and diverse teaching strategies within orientation and educational initiatives.

  1. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  1. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.

  1. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

  1. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.

  1. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

  1. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

  1. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from a School of Nursing with current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Masters in Nursing or Education required. Minimum of three (3) years experience in nursing practice required. Prior experience in teaching preferred.
