What to Expect (Job Responsibilities)
- Review medical records concurrently to ensure accuracy, completeness, and clarity of clinical documentation
- Serve as a resource on clinical documentation requirements and communicate discrepancies to physicians
- Conduct educational sessions for physicians and healthcare team members on documentation standards
- Collaborate with various healthcare disciplines regarding clinical documentation issues
- Maintain records of reviews, queries, and physician responses using computer systems effectively
What is Required (Qualifications)
- Education: Associate/Diploma Degree in Nursing and five to ten years of acute care medical or surgical experience required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
- Licensure/Certification: Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio; RHIA, RHIT, or CCS credentials considered in lieu of RN
- Minimum of 5 years acute care medical or surgical experience required
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organization, and prioritization skills
- Ability to analyze and interpret information from various sources
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience in Utilization/Case Management, managed care, or Clinical Documentation
- Familiarity with ICD-10 coding conventions and DRG methodology
- Demonstrated knowledge in using clinical information systems and office automation
