Job Summary

Clinical Dietitian – Kennestone – Part Time. Practices as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team responsible for the provision of medical nutrition therapy. Fosters continuity of the Nutrition Care Process across all phases of the continuum of care as recommended by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and promote quality nutrition services based on client expectations and needs.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and health care team to assess nutrition and education needs.
  • Provide services and establish goals based on identified needs.
  • Apply knowledge and skills in developing, implementing, and maintaining nutrition care plans.
  • Continuously evaluate nutrition care processes and patient outcomes; implement quality practice following system policies, procedures, and evidence‑based research.
  • Provide care according to organizational ethics, licensure, and standards of professional practice for dietetics professionals.
  • Apply Joint Commission and/or regulatory standards in the provision of nutrition care.
  • Utilize patient experience and empathy skills when interacting with patients and family members.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, committees, and team huddles.
• Provide medical nutrition therapy according to system policy and Nutrition Care Process practice standards.
  • Utilize Nutrition Care Process and WellStar Nutrition Care Policies to assess patients.
  • Conduct nutrition screening, assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring, and evaluation of at‑risk patients.
  • Apply psycho‑social, age‑appropriate, evidence‑based nutrition care.
  • Document patient encounters in the health care record.
  • Identify, monitor, and evaluate enteral nutrition support regimens; manage enteral nutrition support under medical staff supervision.
  • Develop and implement transitional feeding plans.
  • Perform NutritionFocused Physical Exams to evaluate malnutrition severity.
  • Assess patient learning needs, barriers, preferred learning styles, and educational level; provide education accordingly.
  • Utilize community resources through continuum of care.
• Locate, review, and apply best practice research findings to manage disease/condition and improve patient outcomes.
• Systematically evaluate quality and effectiveness of practice and revise as needed.
• Engage in lifelong self‑development to improve knowledge and skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in nutrition/dietetics from an accredited institution.
• Completion of a supervised practice didactic program accredited by the ACEND.
• Minimum Certification: Registered Dietitian (RD, RDN) through the CDR within 6 months of hire; Licensed Dietitian in Georgia within 6 months of hire.
• Preferred certification: AHA‑BLS.
• Minimum Experience: 1–2 years clinical experience preferred.
• Experience with electronic medical record charting systems and food‑service software required.
• Excellent interpersonal, customer‑service, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of best practices in clinical nutrition and the dietetics profession.
• Knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process and its use in complex cases in the clinical setting.
• Ability to think critically to apply nutrition interventions to patients with multiple comorbidities and/or special needs, including management of enteral nutrition provisions.
• Ability to maintain effective relationships with other health care professionals in sharing nutrition knowledge and expertise.
• Knowledge of malnutrition assessment, including performance of nutrition‑focused physical exams, preferred.
