Job description

Role Overview

Screen patients to identify nutritional risk, assess needs, implement nutrition therapy, monitor progress, supply documentation, educate patients, participate in menu development, support nutrition services, and collaborate with the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Screen patients to identify those at nutritional risk, those not receiving diet and those on modified diets.
• Complete nutrition assessment, implement nutrition therapy, monitor and evaluate progress related to patients’ desired outcomes, and provide documentation to support nutritional care.
• Implement and monitor the provision of enteral and parenteral nutrition for patients.
• Educate in‑patients and out‑patients upon physician referrals or identified needs.
• Communicate and assist in resolving patient‑related concerns.
• Participate in room service patient menu development and CBORD software systems.
• Provide nutrition in‑services/education to departments, staff, and other healthcare team members.
• Support recipe development for Healthy Café selections (“Self‑Select/Chef Cares”).
• Support community/wellness requests, such as healthy recipe development and promotion for the local farmer’s market.
• Precept dietetic interns.
• Participate on various committees to support departmental or house‑wide activities as needed.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Clinical Nutrition Manager and Director of Food and Nutrition.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, food service systems management, clinical nutrition, or a related area.
• Currently registered with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (ADA) or eligible for registry, and attend continuing education programs to maintain registration as RDN and certification by the CDR.
• Licensed by the state of South Carolina.
• Keep up to date with the latest nutrition research.
• Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills to convey up‑to‑date technical information and guidelines into practical eating advice for patients, groups, and community applications.
