Job summary

Mercy Hospital St. Louis is seeking a Clinical Dietitian to provide evidence-based nutrition care across inpatient and outpatient settings, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and participate in standard operations and quality initiatives.

You will support ongoing education for dietetic interns and staff, manage multiple tasks prioritizing patient care, and contribute to training while upholding Mercy values and service standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics.
• RD certification current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and LD licensure where required; registration/licensure due within six months of hire.
• Credentialing and National Provider Identifier (NPI) must be completed within six months of hire or registration.

Responsibilities

• Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) for patients across inpatient and outpatient units.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and participate in rounds, huddles, and performance-improvement projects.
• Educate dietetic interns and nutrition assistants; conduct in-services and staff training.

The Clinical Dietitian uses evidence-based practice skills, education and experience for clinical care and responsibilities including: Assigned clinical and patient care area of responsibility; clinical collaboration within multidisciplinary team including responsibility for standard operations and evidence-based medicine to meet regulatory compliance. Active participation in Performance Improvement projects, serves as clinical nutrition expert in task forces, team huddles, daily rounds, and multidisciplinary meetings. Participates in In-Services for the nutrition assistants and assists the food service with nutrition, tray line, and diet competency training including makes appropriate menu hangs/substitutions for modified patient menus. Participates in ongoing education and training of competencies for self, new hires, and dietetic interns. Manages multiple tasks efficiently while prioritizing effective patient care. Additionally, Clinical Dietitian is responsible and performs duties with direction from experienced clinician and/or management, for all patient units or service areas, in-patients or out-patients, to assure appropriate identification of patients who are at nutrition risk and to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) Services. The Clinical Dietitian assures that the Mercy Mission, Mercy Values, Service Standards, confidentiality, policies and procedures of the department and Health Center are followed. This responsibility includes the appropriate utilization of the Health Center's resources to optimize patient care. Performs any assigned duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics
• Licensure: RD (Registered Dietitian) current registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). LD (Licensed Dietitian) current practice license for the state of practice or provisional license if allowed in the state of practice Registration eligible candidates in states that allow a provisional license before registration must complete registration requirements within six months of hire. Credentialing and National Provider Identifier must be completed within six months of hire or registration

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience: 1-3 years of healthcare experience in clinical dietetics and/or healthcare food service.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in nutrition and Dietetics.
• Certifications: Both RD and LD status must remain effective and in current status.
• Other: Basic computer and office equipment skills.

Transforming the Health of Our Communities

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest. Many of these would join together in 1986 as Mercy.
