Job summary

LewisGale Hospital Alleghany, part of LewisGale Regional Health System, is hiring a Clinical Dietitian to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy across patient ages with the Nutrition Care Process. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to assess nutritional needs and develop care plans.

Requirements include a registered dietitian credential, ACEND-accredited supervised practice, and a Bachelor’s in Nutrition or Dietetics; 75 CEUs in 5 years.

Qualifications

• Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or equivalent.
• Required: Completion of an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program
• Preferred: One to two years of hospital clinical nutrition experience
• Required: Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration
• Preferred: Licensure by the State department of Licensing and Regulation or as required by state.
• Required: 75 CEUs within a 5-year period to meet CDR professional portfolio requirements
• Required: Continued registration and licensure as a dietitian

Responsibilities

• Collaborate as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy.
• Provide nutrition care following the Nutrition Care Process.
• Develop and implement individualized nutrition plans of care.
• Perform nutrition-focused assessments and education for patients and families.
• Participate in department and hospital committees and quality initiatives.

Job Summary And Qualifications

To collaborate as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide patients of all age groups and acuity levels with high quality Medical Nutrition Therapy following the Nutrition Care Process. Note: The following is not intended to be a finite list of responsibilities for this position

Major Responsibilities

• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” and “Mission and Value Statement.”

Quality

• Performs timely nutrition screenings and assessemnts in accordance with the Corporate Screening and Assessment Policy
• Perform nutrition focused physical exams on patients who are at nutritional risk.
• Identify patients at nutritional risk based on established criteria
• Evaluate age specific, developmental and disease specific nutritional needs of patients
• Develop and implement individualized nutritional plan of care.
• Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness and outcomes of medical nutrition therapy interventions.
• Identify patient nutrition education needs and provide nutrition counseling to patients, family, and/or caregivers.
• Participate in the competency assessment process and achieve a passing score of 80% or higher on RD chart audits
• Adheres to nutrition care guidelines, the nutrition care manual, department/facility guidelines and/or protocols to provide evidence based nutrition care.
• Integrates the Academy Code of Ethics in all areas of practice.

Specialty-Specific Responsibilities

• Participation in appropriate department and hospital wide committees and community events to promote medical nutrition therapy.
• Participates in research opportunities and promotes evidenced-based practice

• Maintains a patient-first philosophy and engages in service recovery when necessary.
• Supports the development and implementation of strategies to elevate the patient experience.
• Displays courteous behavior to customers, guests, and co-worker. Must smile, make eye contact, and use AIDET principles when interfacing with patients.

• Mentors and coaches dietetic interns and new employees while fostering their critical thinking skills.
• Serve as a clinical resource for reliable nutrition information to all interdisciplinary team members, interns, and the community.

• Pursues goals and professional development to maintain a high level of competency in nutrition care.

Finance

• Perform all duties and uses resources in a fiscially responsible manner.

Education & Experience

• Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or equivalent required.
• Required: Completion of an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program
• Preferred: One to two years of hospital clinical nutrition experience

Licensure, Certifications, Training: Credential*

• Required: Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic

• Required: Employment in this position is contingent upon continued registration and licensure as a dietitian
