Job summary

UnityPoint Health in Fort Dodge, IA is seeking a Dietitian in Diabetes Education to develop personalized medical nutrition therapy plans and partner with an interdisciplinary team for patient care.

The role focuses on nutrition assessment, education, and quality improvement, with a Monday-Friday schedule and a 0.8 FTE commitment.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in dietetics or equivalent required.
• Successful completion of an accredited dietetics internship or post-graduate program required.
• One year or more acute clinical dietitian experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy and tailor nutrition care plans for patients.
• Educate patients, families, staff, and community on nutrition.
• Collaborate with care teams during rounds and conferences.
• Lead dietetic technicians, interns, and students in nutrition care delivery.
• Drive quality and safety initiatives and manage enteral formulary.

Responsibilities

• Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy: Assess, diagnose, and implement nutrition care plans tailored to each patient’s needs. Monitor outcomes such as weight, labs, wound healing, and clinical progress.
• Educate & Empower: Offer nutrition education to patients, families, staff, and the community. Develop patient-centered materials and resources that support understanding and long‑term health.
• Collaborate with Care Teams: Participate in rounds, patient care conferences, and interdisciplinary meetings. Communicate with providers to ensure safe, cost-effective, and high‑quality nutrition therapy.
• Lead & Mentor: Guide dietetic technicians, interns, and students in delivering nutrition care. Contribute to hospital projects, quality improvement initiatives, and policy development.
• Drive Quality & Safety: Implement clinical projects, maintain the enteral formulary, and help advance patient safety goals in nutrition services.

Qualifications

Education

• Master’s degree in dietetics or degree that meets the requirements of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required.
• Individuals credentialed as Registered Dietitians prior to January 1, 2024, are eligible with a Bachelor’s degree in dietetics or degree that meets the requirements of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required.
• Successful completion of an internship coordinated undergraduate program, or post graduate program accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required.

Experience

• One year of experience as an acute clinical dietitian for entry level practice or 3+ years’ experience as an acute dietitian for advanced level practice is preferred.
