Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina seeks a Clinical Counselor (PRN) for the CHS STAR Children’s Day Treatment Program (Offsite). You will deliver direct patient care, assess and plan treatment, and lead group therapy for children and adolescents with behavioral health needs.

Under supervision of the Program Coordinator, you will collaborate with social workers, psychiatrists, and nurses to support reintegration to school and home.

Qualifications

  • Direct patient care and group therapy responsibilities for children/adolescents.
  • Collaboration with social workers, psychiatrists, and nurses in MDT.
  • Licensure and BLS certification required.

Job description

General Responsibilities
  • Provides direct patient care, manages groups of patients, and provides a safe and therapeutic milieu.
  • Direct patient care services to include assessment, planning, monitoring, advocacy, psychosocial rehab services and direct intervention.
  • Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the Clinical Counselor is responsible for group therapy care as directed by the multi-disciplinary treatment plan.
  • Plan and lead groups focusing on coping skills, social skills, and self-esteem for children with Behavioral Health problems.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and work closely with Social Workers, psychiatrists, and Nurses to assist children and adolescents in rehabilitating back into the school and home environment.
Clinic Specific Responsibilities
  • Provides direct patient care.
  • Manages groups of patients.
  • Provides a safe and therapeutic milieu.
  • Maintains current and up to date knowledge and skills related to patient treatment.
  • Participates in program development.
  • Serves a preceptor/ mentor for new CTMs.
  • Able to work autonomously and as an active member of the CDT team.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent
  • Work Experience: 5 years for support or 0-2 years for professional
Licensure & Certifications
  • Current state licensure required.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
