Job summary

Salinas Valley Health Medical Center is seeking a CT Technologist to perform diagnostic CT procedures and assist radiologists in the Diagnostic Imaging department. The role requires ARRT CT and CRT certifications, plus CPR/BLS and several years of radiologic experience.

The CT tech will coordinate daily department operations, prep patients, administer contrast, and help maintain ACR accreditation. A collaborative team environment and opportunities for ongoing training are offered.

Qualifications

  • Work requires completion of a two-year Radiologic Technology training program approved by the AMA/ accreditation standards.
  • Current CRT certification and ARRT (CT) certification required; Fluoroscopy certification required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience as a licensed Radiologic Technologist and two (2) years in CT.
  • CPR/BLS certification per American Heart Association required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operation of the CT department under supervision.
  • Perform diagnostic CT procedures (head, chest, abdomen, pelvis, spine, etc.).
  • Assist physicians with CT procedures (biopsies, injections) as needed.
  • Maintain ACR accreditation for CT and ensure safety and quality standards.
  • Train and serve as a resource for CT technologists and Radiologists.
  • Prepare patients, manage IV contrast, and monitor patient condition pre/post exam.
  • Ensure proper equipment operation and report malfunctions.

Job description

Department: Diagnostic Imaging Coordinates the day-to-day operation of the C.T. Department. Under minimal supervision, performs diagnostic computerized tomography procedures as requested by a physician to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Assists with maintaining ACR accreditation for C.T. Trains and serves as a resource person in handling difficult or unusual situations. Acts as a positive role model for staff. Works with staff and Radiologists to develop and implement C.T. Department policies and protocols. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the population of the patients served on his/her unit. Performs other duties as assigned. Performs any combination of the following duties depending on the area of assignment. Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the C.T. Department. Performs diagnostic C.T. procedures such as head, chest, spine, abdomen, pelvis, etc. Assists physicians in performing other C.T. procedures such as biopsies, etc., as needed. Cardiac, vascular, bone density and 3-D reconstruction. Transports patients by stretcher, bed, wheelchair, or walking. Provides care for patients during transportation and within the department, if necessary. Assists patients by lifting and moving them off and on the scanning table. Provides bedpans and urinals as needed. Assures that patients are properly dressed for their procedures. Prepares patient for exam by consenting, explaining exam and answering patient questions. Starts intravenous lines and administers contrast and other preparations so as to complete exam in a timely fashion. Cares for patient during procedures by assisting them to rest rooms, giving them blankets, etc. Evaluates patient condition pre and post-procedure and reports changes in the patient's condition to nurses or Radiologist for follow-up. Assists with emergency medical treatment under physician direction. Pulls contrast from Pyxis per protocol and documents contrast in eMar per protocol. Mixes oral and rectal contrast per protocol for pertinent exams. Is competent in loading power injector for contrast studies. Performs related duties such as reporting equipment malfunctions, assists others, and special assignments. Cleans work area, orders and maintains the department inventory of supplies. Reviews and verifies outpatient orders for the following day. Makes appropriate calls to physician etc. to verify orders if needed. Serves as a resource person for the technologists, referring Physicians, Radiologists, patient care departments, and other department staff. Keeps the C.T. department staff informed on system and/or operation changes. Attends regularly scheduled department meetings and in-services to maintain working knowledge of changes in equipment and protocols. Maintains CEU’s and CPR for license. Participates actively in Performance Improvement and Quality measures. Responsible for staff training, competency, and training. Is competent in Meditech, PACS, and Pyxis as it pertains to imaging and patient care. Works closely with Radiologist and Department Manager to develop and implement C.T. policies and protocols. Works with Manager to maintain ACR accreditation for C.T.

Education

Education: Work requires completion of a two-year Radiologic Technology training program approved by the American Medical Association (AMA).

Licensure

Licensure: CRT certification, ARRT (CT) certification and Fluoroscopy certification are required. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards required.

Experience

Experience: At least three (3) years of experience as a licensed Radiologic Technologist and 2 years' experience as a CT Technologist.

Pay

Pay Range: The hourly rate for this position is $64.10 - $77.14. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.

Shift Differentials
