Job summary

UnityPoint Health's Express Care/Urgent Care clinic in West Des Moines, IA seeks a Clinical Care Attendant. You will assist with patient intake, vital signs, procedures, and patient flow across two clinics, ensuring compassionate care from arrival to checkout.

The role supports providers, maintains exam rooms, coordinates with teams, and helps deliver timely care while upholding HIPAA and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Current Iowa certification as EMT, Paramedic, LPN, or CMA.
• Active permit or license required for EMT/Paramedic in state of practice.
• LPN license active or compact license including state of practice.
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program (certificate, diploma or associate).
• Certification/registration through recognized medical assistant organizations.

Responsibilities

• Greet, register, and room patients; collect vital signs and patient history.
• Assist providers with clinical procedures and perform point-of-care testing as directed.
• Provide patient education and comfort, review after-visit instructions, and conduct follow-up calls.
• Maintain exam rooms, medical supplies, and clinic logs per protocol.
• Communicate with patients, providers, pharmacies, and staff effectively.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, and safety standards.
• Participate in clinic meetings, trainings, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support clinic operations.

Monday-Friday - 3 x 12 hour shifts (8AM-8PM) + every 3rd weekend

The Clinical Care Attendant plays a vital role in keeping Express Care and Urgent Care running smoothly by supporting providers and delivering efficient, compassionate patient care. This role assists with patient intake, vital signs, point-of-care testing, procedures, and patient flow while helping create a positive experience from arrival to checkout. Working across both settings, the Clinical Care Attendant is an essential part of the team, helping patients receive timely care when they need it most.

• IF LPN: Current and Active/Unencumbered LPN License in State of Practice or compact license including state of practice
• IF Certified Medical Assistant: Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants (Certificate, diploma, orassociate’s degree)required.
• Certified or Registered Medical Assistant through one of the following required:
• NationalHealthcareAssociation
• American Association of Medical Assistants
• National Center forCompetencyTesting

• National Association of Health Professionals

• American Allied Health
• American Medical Technologists
• Clinical experience preferred!
