Job summary

Ochsner Health is seeking a Clinical Athletic Trainer (ATC) to provide wound care, gait training, and patient education in a clinic setting and support surgical coordination. This full-time role requires a Bachelor’s in Allied Health with OTC, BLS, and BOCA certification, plus 3 years of healthcare office experience.

On-site at Ochsner Medical Complex-The Grove in Baton Rouge. The position supports physicians, conducts research, and engages in quality improvement projects, with responsibilities

Qualifications

• Required – Bachelor’s Degree in Allied Health.
• Preferred – Master’s Degree in Allied Health or Education.
• Required - 3 years related healthcare office experience in clinical or other medical areas including evaluating and assessing patient injury.
• Required - Certified Orthopedic Technologist (OTC).
• Required - Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
• Required - Board of Certification Athletic Trainers Certification (BOCATC).
• Preferred - License in the state of practice.
• Completion of SMA residency or equivalent program.

Responsibilities

• Assists the physician with research and quality improvement projects.
• Educates patients regarding treatment plans, pathophysiology, anatomy, and clinical decision making.
• Gathers patient’s medical background and history of present illness, performs focused clinical examination, documents findings and treatment plans, and places orders in EMR under written guidelines.
• Performs wound care, crutch and gait training, casting, splinting, or bracing, and instructs patients on exercise programs.
• Assists the physician in the clinic and operative setting (works independently and when required under physician supervision).
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population and maintains patient privacy and professional communication.
