Job summary

UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital is seeking a Clinical Associate (CNA) to support the Med Surg unit. This 100% onsite position requires providing direct patient care, assisting with meals, and addressing personal and comfort needs for patients.

The role operates under the guidance of nursing staff with a strong emphasis on safety and infection control. Qualifications include an active CNA with BLS, a high school diploma or equivalent, and completion of Medical Terminology.

Qualifications

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completed Medical Terminology Course.
  • Past or current experience in an acute care hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the values and mission of UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital.
  • Provide direct patient care and comfort to patients and families.
  • Perform hourly rounds and assist with admissions tasks and patient setup.
  • Observe infection control policies and ensure patient safety.
  • Follow plan of care under supervision of the staff nurse, addressing age-specific needs.

Job description

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital as a Clinical Associate (CNA) in the Med Surg unit. Here, you will prepare patients and assist with meals while providing direct patient care necessary to meet the personal, physical, and comfort needs of the patient. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

With the leadership of the Manager and the Clinical Supervisor, performs assigned supportive work in connection with the delivery of patient care, including functional tasks and skills. Utilizes interactive processes which will exceed the expectation of patients, physicians, families, or significant others, provides high-quality, cost-effective care and treatment. Demonstrates necessary skills and knowledge to provide care for patients according to unit specific competencies as appropriate to the age of the patients served, as delineated in the Center's Scope of Care.

Essential Job Functions

  • Acts as a patient/family advocate
  • Provide comfort measures and assistance to patient and family
  • Performs hourly rounds on patients and meets needs as appropriate
  • Demonstrates the necessary skills and knowledge to provide care for patients according to unit specific Scope of Care
  • Understands Growth and Development and responds effectively to the unique needs of specific patient populations
  • With the leadership of the staff nurse, follows plan of care by completing assigned tasks related to direct patient care
  • Assists with admissions by setting up patient rooms, orienting patients to rooms, obtaining height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure (in both arms when applicable), changing clothing, labeling, and storing personal care items
  • Observes and follows infection control policies and procedures in accordance with infection control policy
Required Qualifications
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completed Medical Terminology Course
  • Past or current experience in an acute care hospital setting

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
