Job summary

Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) at Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ, seeks an academic/clinical faculty member to split time between teaching and clinical care. The 0.4 FTE teaching portion covers internal medicine skills labs, lectures, standardized patient testing, and rotation site recruitment.

The remaining 0.6 FTE provides patient care in the MWU Multispecialty Clinic, with involvement in OMM/OMM-based activities if board-certified.

Qualifications

  • Arizona state osteopathic medical license with no restrictions.
  • DEA license.
  • Board certification or eligibility for AOA or ABMS certification.
  • Able to obtain malpractice insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in curricular planning and faculty retreats.
  • Develop, implement, and assess the pre-clinical curriculum.
  • Teach clinical lectures and develop learning objectives and questions.
  • Proctor and score OSCE examinations; assist remediation for COMLEX-USA.

Job description

Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) is seeking anacademic/clinical faculty member. This person will spend 0.4 FTEfor the Department of Internal Medicine teaching clinical skillsand/or NMM labs, lecturing, assisting with standardized patienttesting of students, grading, and participating in clinicalclerkship rotation recruitment and rotation site visits. Theremaining 0.6 FTE will involve a clinical practice in the FamilyMedicine and/or Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Clinic of theMidwestern University (MWU) Multispecialty Clinic, depending inwhich specialty or specialties the faculty member has boardcertification.

Teaching
  • Participate in curricular planning and review meetings, andfaculty retreats.
  • Develop, implement, and assess the curriculum as faculty in thepre-clinical courses.
  • Teach clinical lectures, including developing the associatedlearning objectives and examination questions.
  • Actively participate in the 4-year teaching program in AZCOM,which may include OMM labs, physical examination and ultrasoundworkshops, SOAP note grading, OSCE’s, and precepting in the MWUmultispecialty clinic for students, Scholars, and residents.
  • Assist with training for affiliated and sponsored GMEprograms.
  • Assist in the development of standardized patient cases forexaminations, as requested
  • Proctor/Score Osteopathic Standardized Patient Examinations, asrequested
  • Assist in the remediation of students who fail OSCEExaminations and / or require assistance in preparation forCOMLEX-USA examinations.
  • Assist with rotation preceptor recruitment and site visits asrequested/assigned.
  • Develop/deliver faculty development and training to preceptorsas requested.
  • If NMM-certified, teach and mentor OMM Scholars and ONMMResidents, as part of the ONMM didactic series and Applied Masterof Osteopathic Education (AMOE) program.
Scholarly Activity
  • Actively engage in scholarly activities according to area(s) ofexpertise, to include osteopathic research, quality improvementprojects, invited presentations at state and/or nationalconferences, publications, poster presentations, peer reviews, andnational board question writing.
  • Serve as a Project Investigator (PI) for students and residentsengaging in scholarly work.
Service
  • Mentor students requiring academic assistance and providecareer counseling.
  • Attend required meetings and serve on committees as assigned,which may include meetings/committees for the University, theDepartment of AZCOM Clinical Education, the Department ofOsteopathic Family & Community Medicine, the ONMM residency,and the MWU Multispecialty Clinic.
  • Participate in community relations efforts to extend andenhance the visibility and reputation of the Department, theCollege of Osteopathic Medicine, and Midwestern University
  • Serve on state, regional, and/or national societies, agencies,bureaus, and committees of the profession and specialty ordiscipline.
  • Provide osteopathic clinical supervision for the community careoutreach activities of Health Outreach through Medical Education(HOME), as requested.
  • Serve as advisor to student clubs as requested.
  • Provide patient care in the Midwestern UniversityMultispecialty Clinic.
  • Participate in AZCOM applicant interviews.
  • Remain current and board certified in your field ofspecialty.
  • Maintain medical licensure in the state of Arizona.
