Job summary

Midwestern University is seeking a faculty member for Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. The role includes 0.2 FTE teaching, 0.2 FTE program directorship for the ONMM Residency, and 0.6 FTE direct clinical care and supervision of students and residents in hospital or clinic settings.

  • Supervise and assess Osteopathic Standardized Patient Examinations (OSCEs).
  • Oversee resident schedules and clinical education activities for the ONMM residency.
  • Maintain patient care in the MWU Multispecialty Clinic and supervise students and residents.

Job description

Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) is seeking an academic/clinical faculty member. This person will spend 0.2 FTE for the Department of Osteopathic Family and Community Medicine teaching clinical skills, lecturing, assisting with standardized patient testing of students, grading, and participating in clinical clerkship rotations. Applicant will spend 0.2 FTE dedicated to program directorship for the ONMM Residency Program at the Midwestern University Multispecialty Clinic overseeing resident schedules, supervision and assessment. Applicant will spend 0.6 FTE clinic time which will include direct care of patients, supervision of students and supervision of ONMM residents in the hospital and/or clinic settings. Applicant must be board certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and have an active, unrestricted license in Arizona.

Teaching
  • Participate in curricular planning and faculty retreats.
  • Develop, implement, and assess the curriculum as faculty in the pre-clinical courses.
  • Teach clinical lectures, including developing the associated learning objectives and examination questions.
  • Actively participate in the 4-year teaching program in AZCOM, including OMM labs, physical examination labs, SOAP note grading, OSCE's, and OMM and ultrasound workshops, commensurate with training
  • Assist in the development of standardized patient cases for examinations, as requested
  • Proctor/Score Osteopathic Standardized Patient Examinations, as requested
  • Assist in the remediation of students who fail OSCE Examinations and/ or require assistance in preparation for COM LEX-USA examinations.
Scholarly Activity
  • Actively engage in scholarly activities according to area(s) of expertise, to include osteopathic research, quality improvement projects, invited presentations at state and/or national conferences, publications, poster presentations, peer reviews, and national board question writing.
  • Serve as a Project Investigator (Pl) for students and residents engaging in scholarly work.
Service
  • Mentor students requiring academic assistance and provide career counseling.
  • Attend required meetings and serve on committees as assigned, which may include meetings/committees for the University, the Department of AZCOM Clinical Education, the Department of Osteopathic Family & Community Medicine, the ONMM residency, and the MWU Multispecialty Clinic.
  • Maintain patient care in the Midwestern University Multispecialty Clinic.
  • Serve as advisor to student clubs as requested.
  • Participate in AZCOM applicant interviews.
  • Remain current and board certified in your field of specialty.
Administration
  • Supervise resident scheduling and assessment.
  • Maintain accreditation of the ONMM Plus One program through ACGME.
  • Work with the MWU GME Consortium, including committee work as assigned.
  • Produce required documentation for ACGME and support the program through accreditation activities.
  • Document regular milestone evaluations for the residents.
  • Recruit residents for each class.
  • Assess learning activities and rotations to optimize resident learning.
  • Personally supervise patient care activities for residents in the clinic and in the hospital.
Requirements
