Job summary

Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) seeks a PACU RN to join a fast-paced, high-acuity post-anesthesia care team. You will collaborate with surgical and anesthesia teams to provide safe, efficient care for a wide variety of procedures across the PACU.

The role emphasizes staffing management, patient flow, and leadership in safety initiatives, focusing on patient length of stay and customer experience. Florida RN license required; BSN preferred, BLS certification maintained.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of PACU RN experience.
  • BSN degree preferred.
  • Florida RN license or valid eNLC multi-state license; BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage staffing assignments for shifts based on patient acuity.
  • Coordinate patient flow with Admin Supervisors, Care Coordinators, and Discharge Planners.
  • Monitor overall patient status, with emphasis on seriously ill patients.
  • Ensure compliance with physician orders and established policies and standards of practice.
  • Serve as a resource supporting frontline team members and providers as appropriate.
  • Lead safety huddles and promote change and problem solving.
  • Assess equipment needs to ensure staff have needed equipment for patient care.
  • Support retention strategies and a regulatory-ready environment of care.
  • Assist with allocation of staff, meal breaks, and relief of team members as indicated.
  • Apply fiscal management and judicious use of resources.

The PACU is a fast-paced environment where you are involved in the care of patients coming out of surgery. You will work closely with surgical and anesthesia teams for patients with a wide variety of surgical procedures. This is a high acuity, high volume area.

Responsibilities

  • Manages staffing assignments for oncoming and off going shifts, based on patient acuity and skill set of team members to ensure patient care needs are met.
  • Coordinates patient flow by working directly with the Administrative Supervisors, Care Coordinators, and Discharge Planners to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Monitors overall status of patients within area of responsibility and closely monitors status of seriously ill patients.
  • Coordinates and/or participates in the delivery of patient care ensuring compliance with physician orders and established policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  • Serves as a resource supporting frontline team members and providers as appropriate.
  • Supports clinical collaboration focusing on expected patient length of stay.
  • Performs direct patient care activities as required to meet operational needs.
  • Interfaces with patients and families to enhance customer experience by conducting Nurse Leader rounds and investigating and responding to patient/family and physician complaints.
  • Participates in and/or leads safety huddles.
  • Embraces, communicates, and promotes change and problem solving.
  • Assesses equipment needs to ensure staff have the needed equipment for patient care, and they can appropriately utilize equipment.
  • Supports and sustains all leader-driven initiatives.
  • Assists with retention strategies for new team members that fosters a best place to work environment.
  • Maintains a regulatory ready environment of care.
  • Ensures the appropriate allocation/adjustment of staff, assignment of meal breaks, relief of team members as indicated, etc.
  • Utilizes effective fiscal management skills and financial resources with decision-making.
Qualifications
Education/Training
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) preferred.
Licensure/Certification
  • Maintains current State of Florida RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license.
  • Certification in area of expertise; preferred.
  • Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
  • ACLS, TNCC are required for certain areas.
Experience
  • Minimum two (2) years of PACU RN experience required.
