Clinical Assistant / Associate Professor (PRD)

Primary Purpose and Essential Functions:

The Department of Preventive and Restorative is responsible forproviding the Preventive and Restorative preclinical and clinicalcontent within the dental school pre-doctoral and internationaldental studies curricula including Preventive and MinimallyInvasive Dentistry, Operative Dentistry, Fixed and RemovableProsthodontics, Implant Dentistry and Digital Dentistry, using thelatest and innovative techniques, modern concepts, andtechnology.

Position is full-time, teacher-clinician non-tenure track;4 days per week, 52 weeks per year.

Faculty at Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, University of thePacific, engage in teaching in various formats, including didactic,Simulation and clinical, clinical activities, scholarship,research, and service. The successful candidate will overseedidactic, simulated, and clinical student learning experiences inthe discipline and engage in all the activities listed above.

PRIMARY PURPOSES

I. Teaching

• Deliver lectures, seminars, preclinical simulation laboratoryteaching, clinical teaching, and computer-based individualizedinstruction to support the Preventive and Restorative Department'spre-clinical and clinical courses, in both the predoctoral andinternational dental studies students.

II. Curriculum design and course directorship

• Become a course director in Operative Dentistry, design, leadand manage courses, and follow the ethos of minimumintervention/minimally invasive and modern/up to date concepts,materials and techniques.
• Contribute to curriculum design including integration with thevarious Helix strands.
• Utilize outcomes assessment, including student and peerevaluation, to improve curricular content and presentation.
• Assist in setting standards of care for our Dugoni School ofDentistry student clinic.

III. Patient Care

• Work in the Dugoni School of Dentistry clinics supervisingstudent care of patients.
• Lead and assist in the calibration of faculty both in thepre-clinical and clinical areas in relation to restorativedentistry, in particular cariology and Operative Dentistry.

IV. Research/Scholarship appropriate for promotion eligibility

• Build research endeavors in which you are genuinelyinterested.
• Demonstrate effort in scholarly publications andpresentations.
• Take part in clinical research projects, sample collection andother scholarly activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of:

• Dental school educational processes.
• Operative, Prosthodontic and Restorative didactic concepts andtechniques.
• Dental materials and emerging digital applications and othertechnology to clinical operative and restorative treatment.
• Strong computer proficiency, including the ability toefficiently use Microsoft Office Suite, email systems, databases,and other workplace software, while quickly learning newtechnologies and digital tools as needed.

Experience:

• Minimum 2 years teaching experience.
• Clinical experience in all Restorative and Prosthodonticclinical procedures.
• Experience in leading and mentoring teams.
• Substantial experience and enthusiasm for course directing inOperative Dentistry.
• Commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered, and humanisticdental education.

Education:

• DDS/DMD or international equivalent.
• Valid CPR certification.
• Hold or be eligible for a California Dental License.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of:

• Advanced training/qualifications in Operative Dentistry,Restorative Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Dental Materials, Cariology,or a related discipline

Experience:

• Experience in curriculum development, course management,assessment, and student evaluation.

Ability to:

GENERAL: Faculty should have sufficient motor function to executemovements essential to providing oral health care topatients.

SPECIFIC: Must possess the motor skills to perform palpation,percussion, auscultation and other diagnostic maneuvers, basiclaboratory tests, dental preparations, and diagnostic procedures ina timely manner. Such actions require coordination of gross andfine muscular movements, equilibrium, and functional uses of thesenses of touch and vision.

SPECIFIC: Must be able to perform basic life support including CPR,transfer, and position patients with disabilities, physicallyrestrain adults and children who lack motor control, and positionand reposition himself or herself around the patient and chair insitting and standing positions for prolonged periods of time. Astudent must promote and support the ability of coworkers toperform prompt care.

Must be able to operate controls, use high-speed or low- speeddental handpieces for tooth preparation procedures, and use handinstrumentation including scalpels for surgical procedures. Allthese skills must be performed within reasonable time frames.

This is an in-person role,and the successful candidate must be willing to relocate withinCalifornia, preferably within 25 miles of the (City) Pacificcampus.

While this is an onlineposition, Pacific's three campuses are within California and itsfaculty and staff are mostly California residents. Foradministrative purposes, California residents are preferred.
