Overview

Palliative Care Clinic Office Assistant located in the FirstHealth Cancer Center. This position will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the front desk, including registering patients, scheduling follow-up appointments, managing phone calls, creating patient charts, coordinating with local referral sources, and obtaining necessary patient information.

Responsibilities
  • Enters referrals into EMR.
  • Provides education to patients and families regarding the palliative care program.
  • Notifies referral sources of outcomes.
  • Manages scheduling of appointments.
  • Checks patients in and out and uses accurate and appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes.
  • Scans/faxes information into the EMR or to referral sources as needed.
  • Ensures inventory of forms and supplies.
  • Registers patients, prepares charts, posts charges and payments, and collects co-payments.
  • Assists with maintaining current database of patients’ demographics and billing information.
  • Operates phone system, takes, and relays messages to appropriate team members.
  • Processes patient referrals for tests and to specialists.
  • Obtains prior authorizations for services.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate Degree in Medical Secretarial Science or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of computer applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Medical scheduling experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
