Job summary

Los Angeles LGBT Center in Los Angeles, CA seeks a Clinic Liaison to support the Health Services department. Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, you will handle front desk duties, medical records management, and patient scheduling while ensuring a welcoming and confidential environment.

The role requires 1–2 years of healthcare office experience, strong communication, and flexibility to work Saturdays/evenings.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of or experience with the LGBTQ community and issues relevant to LGBTQ people.
  • 1-2 years healthcare office experience preferred.
  • Able to work flexible hours including Saturdays and evenings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills; team player in high-volume environment.

Responsibilities

  • Greet clients at reception and maintain a welcoming, professional demeanor.
  • Front desk reception, scheduling appointments, and preliminary client assessments.
  • Record payments and co-pays; ensure accurate transactions and daily balancing.
  • Maintain daily/monthly schedules for medical, mental health and social services staff.
  • Check client eligibility with insurers and complete Medi‑Cal reservations (TARs).
  • Process medical records routing, filing, and confidentiality handling.
  • Clinic phone coverage, appointment scheduling, reminders, and information provision.
  • Train and supervise clerical volunteers as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in trainings.

Shift Differential Premium: Plus $1.75 per hour for hours worked between 6pm-6am

Schedule: Monday-Tuesday 10:00am-7:00pm and Wednesday-Friday 8am-5pm

Status: 100%, Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Union

As the nation’s largest and most experienced provider of LGBT medical and mental health services, we help LGBTQ people lead healthier, happier lives, by keeping their minds and body well. All services are free or low cost. We’re also one of the few Federally Qualified Health Centers in the nation with providers who specialize in primary care for LGBTQ people and with a research team working to advance the care and treatment of people in our community.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Program Supervisor, the Clinic Liaison will be responsible for the following:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Adhere to and assist in the implementation of all Business Office procedures;
  • Rotate on a monthly basis to all departmental stations including Front Desk, Medical Records, and Phones;
  • Greet clients at the reception area and during telephone conversations to ensure a welcoming, pleasant and professional response to all clients and interoffice relations;
  • Front desk reception, including patient check-in, scheduling of patient’s appointments, and making preliminary assessments of clients in order to ensure appropriate client services;
  • Record all collections of client payments or co-pays for services rendered, and assure accurate monetary transactions, daily balancing and reconciliation sheets;
  • Maintenance of all daily and monthly schedules for medical, mental health and social services personnel;
  • Check client’s eligibility status with insurance carrier including completing Medi-Cal reservations for care (TARs);
  • Assist in the maintenance of the medical records filing system, including routing charts to providers, accurate record-tracking, filing medical records, loose-sheet sorting and filing;
  • Process record requests for outside entities in a timely manner while adhering to confidentiality practices and procedures;
  • Clinic phone coverage, including scheduling and canceling appointments, placing appointment reminder calls, and providing general information about services offered;
  • Train and work with clerical volunteers as needed;
  • Perform daily administrative functions as assigned, such as word processing, general communications (voice, written and electronic);
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings including internal staff trainings as needed;
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned;
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people;
  • A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people;
  • One to two years of healthcare office experience preferred;
  • Able to work flexible hours including Saturdays and evenings;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong organizational, detail and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a high-client volume environment;
  • Typing speed of forty-five (45) wpm;
  • Knowledgeable in computer software, with the ability to work: word processing, spreadsheets, Internet, etc.;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
