Job summary

Trinity Health MercyOne is seeking a part-time Clinic Lab Technician to join our hospital-based laboratory team. The role supports patient care with phlebotomy, specimen processing, and entry of orders in the Laboratory Information System, with day shifts starting at 7am or 8am and rotating weekends.

You will perform waived and moderately complex CLIA testing under supervision, maintain quality controls, document temperatures, and educate patients on specimen collection.

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomist or other healthcare studies preferred.

Responsibilities

• Procure blood samples via venous and capillary techniques from patients of all ages.
• Utilize LIS to activate, order, and report laboratory results.
• Educate patients on proper specimen collection (urine, stool, sputum).
• Review provider orders and ensure accurate test ordering; contact offices when needed.
• Process specimens and maintain integrity through temperature control.
• Prepare specimens for transfer to reference labs and handle STAT transfers promptly.
• Perform waived and moderately complex CLIA testing under supervision.
• Maintain records including temperature monitoring and QC; perform routine maintenance.
• Collaborate with team in a fast-paced setting to deliver patient-centered care.

Employment Type: Part time Shift: Day Shift

Schedule: 7am or 8 am start time, 8 hour shifts, rotating weekends and holidays

We are looking to hire a Clinic Lab Technician.

• Proficient in the procurement of blood samples via venous and capillary techniques, from patients ranging in age from infant to geriatric.
• Utilizes use of the Laboratory Information System for activating, ordering, and resulting laboratory orders from providers and to result laboratory tests.
• Educates patients in the proper collection of specimens such as urine, stool and sputum.
• Reviews orders from providers, maintaining accuracy in ordering tests; occasionally must call providers' offices to obtain orders.
• Processes specimens in the appropriate way, including looking up specimen requirements, centrifuging and separating as necessary, and storing at the appropriate temperature to maintain sample integrity and testing acceptability.
• Readies specimens for transfer to reference laboratories, including completing the required paperwork for transfer and ensuring STAT specimens are processed and transported in a timely manner, including calling a STAT courier and completing the necessary paperwork for the transfer.
• Performs both waived and moderately complex CLIA testing in hematology, urinalysis, and serologiy areas under the guidance and supervision of an MLT or MT.
• Keeps accurate records, such as temperature monitoring, quality control for all laboratory testing and daily, weekly and monthly maintenance.
• Works together as a team in a fast paced environment to care for our patients while demonstrating Genesis Health System's standards of behavior.

General Requirements:

• Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomist or other healthcare studies preferred.

Education:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Additional course work up to 1 year in healthcare studies.
