Job summary

MercyOne Genesis is hiring a Clinic Lab Technician to support specimen collection, testing, and results in a fast-paced, team-driven environment across a broad regional service area. Responsibilities include venous and capillary blood collection, operating the Laboratory Information System, educating patients on specimen collection, and ensuring proper handling and transfer of specimens.

Responsibilities

• Procure blood samples via venous and capillary techniques for patients from infant to geriatric.
• Use Laboratory Information System to activate orders, run tests, and record results.
• Educate patients on proper specimen collection (urine, stool, sputum).
• Review provider orders and obtain missing orders as needed.
• Process specimens and store at correct temperatures to maintain integrity.
• Prepare specimens for transfer to reference labs and handle STAT transfers.
• Perform waived and moderately complex CLIA testing under supervision.
• Maintain temperature logs, quality control, and routine equipment maintenance.
• Work as part of a fast-paced team delivering patient-centered care.

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Clinic Lab Technician.

• Proficient in the procurement of blood samples via venous and capillary techniques, from patients ranging in age from infant to geriatric.
• Utilizes use of the Laboratory Information System for activating, ordering, and resulting laboratory orders from providers and to result laboratory tests.
• Educates patients in the proper collection of specimens such as urine, stool and sputum.
• Reviews orders from providers, maintaining accuracy in ordering tests; occasionally must call providers' offices to obtain orders.
• Processes specimens in the appropriate way, including looking up specimen requirements, centrifuging and separating as necessary, and storing at the appropriate temperature to maintain sample integrity and testing acceptability.
• Readies specimens for transfer to reference laboratories, including completing the required paperwork for transfer and ensuring STAT specimens are processed and transported in a timely manner, including calling a STAT courier and completing the necessary paperwork for the transfer.
• Performs both waived and moderately complex CLIA testing in hematology, urinalysis, and serologiy areas under the guidance and supervision of an MLT or MT.
• Keeps accurate records, such as temperature monitoring, quality control for all laboratory testing and daily, weekly and monthly maintenance.
• Works together as a team in a fast paced environment to care for our patients while demonstrating Genesis Health System's standards of behavior.

General Requirements:

• Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomist or other healthcare studies preferred.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.
• Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
• Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring, with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health and MercyOne.

Education:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Additional course work up to 1 year in healthcare studies.
