Job summary

MercyOne Medical Group in Iowa seeks a Clinic Lab Technician to support blood collection and specimen processing in a busy lab setting. You will perform venous and capillary draws, operate the Laboratory Information System, and ensure specimen integrity throughout handling and testing.

Responsibilities include educating patients, reviewing orders, preparing specimens for testing and transfer, and performing waived and moderately complex CLIA testing under supervision.

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomist or healthcare studies preferred.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Must work well in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Responsibilities

• Proficient in procuring blood samples via venous and capillary methods from diverse patient ages.
• Utilizes the Laboratory Information System to activate, order and report results.
• Educates patients on proper specimen collection (urine, stool, sputum).
• Reviews provider orders, maintains ordering accuracy, communicates as needed.
• Prepares and processes specimens, ensuring proper storage and handling.
• Transfers specimens to reference labs, completes transfer paperwork timely.
• Performs waived and moderately complex CLIA testing under supervision.
• Keeps accurate temperature and quality control records; supports team goals.
