Job summary

The Northwestern Medicine Clinic Assistant in Physical Medicine supports both clinical and administrative tasks in a physician office, under supervision, providing direct and indirect patient care and assisting with testing.

The role requires 1+ year clinic experience or related training, BLS certification, and a high school diploma; associates or bachelor’s degree is preferred. This is a full-time day-shift position with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• One year or more of recent clinic assistant experience or equivalent training.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days after hire or day one in Academic Medical System.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Assist with performing patient treatments under supervision.
• Conduct basic tasks, screening procedures and specimen collection.
• Monitor patient condition and communicate changes to staff.
• Document patient care and maintain records.
• Maintain equipment and medical supplies, reorder/stock/clean/troubleshoot.
• Keep examination area clean and organized.
• Perform clerical duties: filing, reception, scheduling, data entry, billing, patient registration.
• Provide a friendly, professional demeanor and appearance.
• Refer to Scope of Practice Inventory for RN, LPN, MA and CA as indicated.

The Clinic Assistant (CA) is a multi-skilled worker who assumes a wide range of clinical and administrative roles within the physician office setting. Under the supervision of a Physician and/or the direction of a licensed nurse, the CA provides direct and indirect patient care, performs laboratory and other testing, and may assist with clerical functions. The CA serves as a key team player when interacting and communicating with patients and/or clinical staff in the ambulatory care environment.

Responsibilities:

• Under the supervision of healthcare provider, assists with performing patient treatments.
• Performs basic tasks, screening procedures and specimen collection.
• Screens for and communicates changes in patient condition.
• Documents patient care given.
• Maintains equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning, and troubleshooting.
• Maintains examination area.
• May perform administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry, billing, and patient registration.
• Presents a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor and appearance.
• Refer to Scope of Practice Inventory for RN, LPN, MA and CA (RMG or NMG as indicated)

Required:

• One or more years recent experience working as a clinic assistant in a physician office or hospital setting; or completion of a training program in a medically related field; or currently enrolled in a medically related college degree program with an intent of entering the healthcare field
• Basic Life Support Certification from an American Heart Association accredited source within 90 days if being hired for The Health Network. Basic Life Support Certification is required effective day one if being hired in the Academic Medical System (central region).
• High school diploma or equivalent.
