Job summary

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Climbing Wall Lead Staff at the Tom Taylor Family YMCA in Gig Harbor, WA. The role focuses on supervising and leading climbing wall activities for children and families under the Program Director, reflecting the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Responsibilities include lesson planning, skill development, safety enforcement, volunteer leadership, and coordinating class rosters.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
• One year or more of rock climbing experience.
• Experience or education in recreation, physical education, or related field.
• Belay certified.
• Experience working with diverse populations preferred.
• Ability to instruct climbing wall classes.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications preferred.
• Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day and other required trainings.

Responsibilities

• Prepare lesson plans with a progression appropriate to age and ability.
• Lead and assist participants in skill development and activities.
• Enforce safety rules at the climbing wall while maintaining a fun environment.
• Support program director and climbing wall programs.
• Recruit and lead volunteers for programming support.
• Create and maintain class schedules and rosters.
• Track attendance and communicate with parents.
