Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company in Toledo, OH is seeking a climbing arborist trainee to perform tree trimming and removal duties outdoors. You will learn to identify trees, prune, remove deadwood, and assist with installing support systems in a safe, professional manner.

You will train on equipment handling (chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts) and safety practices, with opportunities for advancement as you gain experience in tree care. This is an on-site, permanent role with travel up to 25%.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors.
• Preferred background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or experience at heights.
• Must complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program on hire.
• Must complete Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course on hire.
• Preference for pesticide licenses/certificates as required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and progressively learn new skills.
• Be part of a tree crew while developing pruning and removal techniques.
• Perform pruning, thinning, and removal of deadwood following industry guidelines.
• Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees and proper tool maintenance.
• Grow with the role depending on performance and safety training.

Position Overview

Trim and remove trees, remove unwanted, diseased or dying limbs on trees, or to affect the health and safety of trees or surrounding areas by performing the following duties.

Job Duties

What You’ll Do:

• Learn to climb trees! (Yes, we will pay you to do that.)
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills
• Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients. Including but not limited to:
• Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Learn how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and more.

Qualifications
