Davey Tree Expert Company is seeking a Climbing Arborist Trainee in Naperville, IL. This outdoor role trains you to work with a tree crew, learn pruning and removal, and grow into safety-conscious tree care professional.

You will start by learning to climb, identify trees, install protective systems, and assist in hazardous removals. Company offers PTO, 401(k), health plan and advancement opportunities.

• Love of the outdoors.
• Forestry, horticulture, landscaping background preferred.
• Ability to complete orientation and safety courses on hire.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and get paid to do it.
• Operate as part of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills.
• Perform pruning and removal safely and skillfully for clients.
• Identify trees and follow pruning guidelines.
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood in the canopy.
• Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection.
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees.
• Maintain and operate tools and equipment including chainsaws and chippers.

Position Overview

Trimand removetrees, remove unwanted,diseased or dying limbs on trees, or to affect the health and safety of trees or surrounding areasby performing the following duties.

Job Duties

What You’ll Do:

• Learn to climb trees! (Yes, we will pay you to do that.)
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills
• Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients. Including but not limited to:
• Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Learn how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and more.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

• Love of the outdoors
• Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
