Job summary

Chatham University is seeking a Climate Engagement Intern (Work Study Only) in Pittsburgh, PA, to support communications, content creation, and outreach for the Climate Toolkit and Youth Climate Advocacy Committee.

Under supervision, you will write blog posts, manage social media, organize webinars, and collaborate with partner institutions while gaining experience in environmental communications and community engagement.

Qualifications

  • Someone with interests in sustainability, communications, writing, climate & environment, marketing, or related fields.
  • Must have a Federal Work Study award.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Communications team on Climate Toolkit, YCAC, and EcoLeader Academy projects.
  • Attend meetings with institutions on sustainability plans and Climate Toolkit partnerships.
  • Write and edit blog posts for the Climate Toolkit.
  • Assist with organizing webinars and coordinating speaker outreach.
  • Brainstorm content ideas and learn the website CMS.
  • Find resources for the Climate Toolkit Resource Library.
  • Write blog posts about Youth Climate Advocacy Committee and EcoLeader Academy.
  • Maintain the YCAC Instagram account with engaging posts.
  • Assist with outreach to potential speakers for the YCAC year.
  • Publish new information on LinkedIn and newsletters.

Pay rate: $11/hr

Employment dates: 8/24/2026 - 4/30/2027
Supervisor info: Senior Director of Communications, in association with Climate Toolkit Manager and Youth Climate Advisory Committee Coordinator

Purpose: Under the direction of the Senior Director of Communications, the Climate Engagement Intern will support the communications, content creation and outreach needs of Phipps’ interrelated climate outreach programs The Climate Toolkit and Youth Climate Advocacy Committee (YCAC), including blog content, social media, email outreach, program development and more. The intern will gain valuable experience working as part of a communications team, interacting/collaborating with outside partners, and developing communications for an environmental mission-based organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively with the Communications team on projects including but not limited to: The Climate Toolkit, YCAC and EcoLeader Academy

  • Attend meetings with institutions who want to discuss their sustainability plans, are interested in signing up for the Climate Toolkit, or who have completed Climate Toolkit goals and related sustainability initiatives.

  • Write and edit blog posts for the Climate Toolkit

  • Assist with organizing webinars, including researching initiatives done by Climate Toolkit partners, outreach to potential speakers and coordination of webinar logistics.

  • Brainstorm development of content and learn the content management system of the website.

  • Find valuable resources for the Climate Toolkit Resource Library

  • Write blogs about Youth Climate Advocacy Committee and EcoLeader Academy projects

  • Maintain the YCAC Instagram account, posting appropriate social media content to keep the online community of youth engaged

  • Assist with outreach to potential speakers for the next YCAC year

  • Write and share new information on our LinkedIn page and newsletter

Qualifications:

  • Someone with interests in sustainability, communications, writing, climate & environment,marketing,or related fields

  • Must have a Federal Work Study award

All current student employees should notify their other manager(s) if you work multiple jobs on campus at the same time. Additionally, students may not work more than 20 hours per week (combined between all campus jobs) during the academic year. Students may not exceed 980 work hours per calendar year.

Student jobs do not automatically roll over to the next academic year or summer.
