Job summary

St. Joseph Center in Los Angeles seeks a Client Support Specialist to be a highly visible, participant-facing member of the Care Campus team, proactively engaging participants, identifying needs, and connecting people to services to support continuity between programs.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed, person-centered approaches, warm handoffs to case management and health services, service navigation across housing, benefits, and resources, and occasional travel within the LA area.

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience in homeless services or direct-service settings.
  • Experience with homelessness and complex service needs strongly preferred.
  • Strong relationship-building, communication, advocacy, service-navigation, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain active presence in participant areas and build trusting relationships using trauma-informed and person-centered approaches.
  • Help participants understand available services and provide warm handoffs to case management, healthcare, behavioral health, hygiene, benefits, housing, and other resources.
  • Support outreach, appointment reminders, document collection, follow-up, service navigation, and off-site accompaniment when appropriate.
  • Use de-escalation and problem-solving skills, communicate emerging concerns, and request Safety or clinical support when needed.

Job description

Since 1976, St. Joseph Center has been meeting the needs of low-income and homeless individuals and families in Venice, Santa Monica, Mar Vista, and surrounding communities. The Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization that assists people without regard for religious affiliation or lack thereof through comprehensive case management and integrated social service programs. The Center enjoys broad-based community support as well as a sponsored relationship with its founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. St. Joseph Center serves approximately 6,000 individuals annually.

Brief Description of Principal Activities

Multifaceted intervention, prevention, and education services are carried out at four sites on the Westside of Los Angeles. St. Joseph Center's integrated programs provide clients with concentrated and coordinated access to services according to the nature of their needs.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Client Support Specialist (CSS) is a highly visible, participant-facing member of the Care Campus team who proactively engages participants, identifies needs, connects people to services, and supports continuity between participants, Case Management, Safety, and other programs.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Qualifications

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Two or more years of experience in homeless services, outreach, service navigation, case-management support, healthcare navigation, peer support, or another direct-service setting preferred.
  • Experience working directly with individuals experiencing homelessness and complex service needs strongly preferred.
  • Strong relationship-building, communication, advocacy, service-navigation, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.
