The CAS Manager is responsible for managing client engagements and providing high-quality accounting and advisory services to privately held businesses and their owners. This position serves as a trusted advisor to clients, while helping them better understand and utilize their financial information.
The CAS Manager will manage engagement workflow and budgets to support engagement profitability, and collaborate closely with the firm's tax, audit, and advisory professionals to provide a coordinated approach to client service while ensuring services are delivered in accordance with firm and professional standards. The CAS Manager is expected to support practice growth by identifying expanded service opportunities, participating in proposals and prospect meetings, and contributing to standardized procedures, technology adoption, and ongoing process improvement across the CAS practice.
- Manage accounting engagements by supervising staff responsible for general ledger accounting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, bank and account reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close processes.
- Review financial statements, reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and/or review financial statements and management reports for clients.
- Manage multiple client engagements to ensure deliverables are completed accurately, on time, in scope, and within budget while maintaining engagement quality, productivity, profitability, and realization goals.
- Plan and prioritize engagement workflows, deadlines, staffing requirements, budgets, and realization, and proactively communicate potential issues to firm leadership.
People Management & Team Development
- Supervise, mentor, and develop CAS team members by providing coaching, feedback, technical guidance, and professional development support while helping team members address technical challenges, improve productivity, and achieve career goals.
- Delegate work effectively based on staff experience, client needs, and engagement requirements.
- Foster a team-oriented environment by promoting a culture of collaboration, adaptability, and open communication.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients and develop strong, long-term relationships with privately held businesses and their owners.
- Drive client satisfaction through effective communication and ensuring that team members meet deadlines and project deliverables.
- Analyze client financial information and provide meaningful insights and recommendations to business owners and management.
- Maintain proactive communication with clients throughout the year and identify opportunities to provide additional advisory services.
- Assist clients with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, financial reporting, and other accounting and business needs.
- Identify and research complex accounting, reporting, and operational issues and work with clients to develop practical solutions.
- Collaborate with the firm's tax, audit, advisory, and other service professionals to provide integrated solutions, identify referral opportunities, and maximize client value.
Business Growth & Practice Development
- Participate in client proposals, presentations, and prospect meetings as appropriate.
- Work with senior leadership to scope and price new engagement opportunities, ensuring proper resource allocation and alignment with firm capabilities.
- Assist in developing and implementing standardized CAS processes, procedures, and best practices.
- Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, technology, and accounting best practices to support continuous improvement and maintain service quality.
- Contribute to the continued growth and development of the firm's CAS practice by developing strong client relationships, identifying new opportunities, and proactively seeking feedback to enhance service offerings.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or similar designation preferred but not required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within public accounting or an outsourced accounting/CAS environment.
- Prior supervisory or management experience preferred, including demonstrated ability to coach, delegate, review work, and support staff development.
- Experience working with privately held businesses and/or their owners strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, and similar platforms.
- Experience with workflow, document management, payroll, bill pay, and outsourced accounting technology platforms preferred. (Ex. Financial Cents, Bill.com, Rightworks Transaction Pro, etc.)
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to providing exceptional client service.
- Ability to anticipate problems or client service issues, communicate them timely, and present proposed solutions rather than only identifying concerns.
- Ability to communicate complex accounting and financial information clearly to business owners and non-accounting professionals.
