Job summary

Gulf Stream Marine, Inc. is seeking a Ship Checker to record cargo movements, including discharge, loading and stowage on vessels, as well as load out and receiving at the terminal. This on-site, outdoor role demands attention to detail and team collaboration in a busy port setting.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, a TWIC, a valid driver’s license, and be willing to travel as needed. Prior customer service experience is valued for accurate record-keeping and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of customer service experience.
• Excellent written and spoken English; Spanish is a plus.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• TWIC credential holder required.
• Dependable transportation to and from work.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Willing to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Count, inspect, sort, identify & record storage location of all cargo discharging (or coming off a vessel).
• Count, inspect, sort, identify & record stow location of all cargo stowed (or being loaded onto a vessel).
• Load / unload trucks.
• Mark & take dimensions of cargo.
• Keep written tallies and records.
• Maintain records with the use of electronic equipment (tablets & scanners).

Overview

The Ship Checker is responsible for recording cargo movement (discharge, loading and stowage on the vessel and load out and receiving of cargos though the terminal, to and from the customer carrier in a responsible, safe and efficient manner.

Qualifications

Candidate Requirements:

• One-year (1) year of experience in customer service.
• Excellent written & communication in English (Spanish is a plus)
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must have Driver’s License
• Must have a TWIC (Transportation Worker identification Credential)
• Dependable mode of transportation to and from work
• The ability and willingness to work in a team environment
• Must be willing to travel, as needed.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Work is 100% outdoors
• Candidate will be exposed to weather conditions like heat, rain & cold on daily basis. And in some occasions will work in closed spaces (warehouse, vessel hatch, etc)
• Capable of walking, bending, stooping, climbing ladders up to 100ft high and have fast physical reactions (jump, move)
• Ability to work in a noisy environment
