Indiana Women’s Prison is a maximum‑security facility located in Indianapolis, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 700 incarcerated adult females. As the oldest women’s correctional facility in the United States, it serves individuals with diverse needs, including pregnant, elderly, youthful, medically complex, and high‑profile incarcerated adult females. The facility features the Officer Breann Leath Memorial Maternal‑Child Health Unit, which supports family bonding and re‑entry planning. Incarcerated individuals have access to mental health services, substance use treatment, domestic abuse programming, and educational opportunities. Role Overview:

As a Clerical Assistant you will be responsible for all duties and responsibilities associated with the facility packet room, record keeping, electronic filing, document archiving, and classification notifications. Individuals with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks are highly sought after and will be the most successful in this position. The position will work closely with other support staff in completing facility‑required goals and tasks and will be an integral member of a successful and efficient team.

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $27,638.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Supports the daily operations of an organization by performing general office tasks
  • Greets visitors and directs them to the appropriate person according to their needs.
  • Answers telephones and gives information to callers, take messages, or transfers calls to appropriate individuals.
  • Opens, sorts, and routes incoming mail and correspondence, and prepares outgoing mail.
  • Operates office machines, such as photocopiers and scanners, facsimile machines, voice mail systems, and personal computers.
  • Accurately maintains and organizes office files.
  • Delivers messages and run errands.
  • Maintains inventory, orders, and distributes supplies.
  • Completes tasks or projects assigned by supervisor in a timely manner.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Ability to provide effective and professional customer service to internal and external parties.
A degree is not required. However, a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) is required.

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
