What Your Job Will Be Like:

Environmental Stewardship (4640) is seeking a Level 1 Manager to provide leadership for the Department of Environmental Systems (4643). In this role, you will lead a multidisciplinary team delivering mission-enabling environmental services that protect workers, the environment, and Sandia¿s ability to execute. You will partner closely with line organizations and external stakeholders to manage environmental risk, ensure commitments are met, and drive continuous improvement; while fostering a strong ES&H culture across the laboratory.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

Work effectively with site-wide internal and external strategic partners, including DOE/NNSA Headquarters and the local Sandia Field Office, to support mission execution and strong environmental stewardship.

Lead and represent the organization using effective verbal and written communication methods; drive continuous improvement to ensure programs remain technically sound, efficient, and effective.

Set strategy and priorities by developing and executing program plans/roadmaps aligned with mission needs, risk posture, and regulatory drivers.

Plan and manage budgets and resources (staffing and contractor support, as applicable); justify resource needs and track performance against commitments.

Establish and monitor performance metrics to evaluate effectiveness, manage risk, drive data-informed decisions, and continuous improvement.

Provide management and strategic direction for environmental programs that may include compliance and monitoring (e.g., wastewater, stormwater, air quality, fuel storage, safe drinking water), or environmental planning and resource programs (e.g., NEPA, SWEIS/SWEA, ecology, cultural resources/archaeology, meteorology, and tools such as PGRADS/FLASH), including associated assessments, documentation, reporting, and issue resolution.

Work effectively to communicate high-level environmental requirements and best management practices in support of line partners, enabling risk-informed decisions and compliant operations.

Ensure deliverables are met through the effective management of staff and supporting resources; organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion on multiple tasks, including aspects and hazard assessments that support the laboratory.

Establish clear expectations for staff and define services to meet customer needs; mentor and develop staff to sustain a high-performing organization.

Be committed to an ES&H culture and support implementation of programmatic requirements across Sandia; ensure adequate staffing exists to meet commitments and deliverables.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$138,600 - $235,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or a closely related field plus eight (8) or more years of experience in environmental management, including implementing environmental programs in a complex organization.

Management and/or project/program management experience, including leading teams and delivering results against commitments.

Working knowledge of environmental requirements and regulations, with the ability to translate requirements into executable program expectations.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.

Active DOE Q-level security clearance or equivalent (e.g., DOD Top Secret).

Qualifications We Desire:

Master's degree in science, engineering, or a closely related field, plus four (4) or more years of experience.

Minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated leadership experience.

Experience developing program strategy/roadmaps, managing budgets/resources, and using metrics to drive performance and continuous improvement.

Ability to build effective working relationships and influence at all organizational levels.

Experience working at a federal facility (e.g., DOE/NNSA) and/or interfacing with external regulators and oversight organizations.

About Our Team:

The mission of Sandia's Environmental Systems Department is to assist with work processes to minimize negative environmental impacts. Through proper planning; relevant monitoring and surveillance; and collecting, analyzing, and distributing data, we assist in meeting regulatory compliance requirements and in ensuring the safety and success of Members of the Workforce, the DOE, and community.

Posting Duration:

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of three (3) calendar days, including the 'posting date'. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

EEO:

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
