Job summary

VSO Inc. seeks an experienced Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to join our Lorton, Virginia team. The ISSE will conduct security assessments, engineer secure solutions, automate defensive cyber activities, and advise leadership on risks and mitigations.

The role requires expertise with ePO, Splunk, ACAS, Azure Automation, STIG/SCAP, and Active Directory to secure mission systems and ensure DoD cybersecurity compliance. Onsite work and occasional travel are required.

Qualifications

• Active IAT/IAM/IASAE Level III certification such as CASP+ (SecurityX), CISSP, or CISM.
• Active TS/SCI security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering/Cyber security or related field with 5–8 years of experience, or 10+ years in lieu of degree.
• 3+ years of leadership experience.
• Experience configuring, deploying, and sustaining cyber security tools in a cloud environment.
• Experience configuring cloud security tools and services.
• Experience configuring Microsoft Entra ID.

Responsibilities

• Perform and review security assessments of computing environments to identify vulnerabilities and compliance gaps.
• Engineer cybersecurity solutions to support Cyber Threat and Defensive Operations.
• Configure, deploy, and sustain cyber security tools in a cloud environment (ACAS, ePO, Splunk, STIG/SCAP, YUM).
• Configure Entra ID and Azure security services related to ATO achievement.
• Automate security monitoring, threat assessments, and reporting.
• Analyze security posture trends and communicate findings to ISSM/ISSO.
• Recommend cybersecurity measures based on evolving threats.
• Implement security controls per DoD policies (CIA, authentication, non-repudiation).
• Plan modifications based on exercise results and testing outcomes.
• Mitigate or accept risks and deficiencies during certification and testing.

Virtual Service Operations is searching for an Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) to join our dynamic team of experts in Lorton, Virginia. As an ISSE, you will be responsible for conducting security assessments, engineering secure solutions, automating defensive cyber activities, and advising leadership on risks and mitigation strategies. Candidates should bring expertise with technologies such as ePO, Splunk, ACAS, Azure Automation, STIG/SCAP, and Active Directory to secure complex mission systems and ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity standards. As a part of this team you will support the development and sustainment of secure enclaves, providing enterprise services and cyber network defense capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform and review technical security assessments of computing environments to identify vulnerabilities and compliance gaps.
• Engineer unique cybersecurity solutions to support Cyber Threat and Defensive Operations.
• Configure, deploying, and sustain cyber security tools such as (ACAS, ePO, Splunk, STIG/SCAP, YUM) in a cloud environment.
• Configure Entra ID and Azure security services / tools as they relate to ATO achievement.
• Automate security monitoring, threat assessments, and reporting functions.
• Analyze system and organizational security posture trends; provide findings to the ISSM/ISSO.
• Recommend cybersecurity measures and mitigations based on evolving threats and vulnerabilities.
• Implement security controls in alignment with DoD policies and principles of confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, and non-repudiation.
• Recommend and plan modifications based on exercise results and security testing outcomes.
• Mitigate or recommend acceptance of identified risks and deficiencies during certification and testing activities.

Required Qualifications:

• Active IAT/IAM/IASAE Level III certification such as: CASP + (SecurityX), CISSP, or CISM.
• Active TS/SCI security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Cyber security (or related field) and 5 - 8 years of demonstrated professional experience OR 10+ years of demonstrated equivalent professional experience in lieu of a degree.
• 3+ years of leadership experience.
• Demonstrated experience configuring, deploying, and sustaining cyber security tools within a cloud environment.
• Demonstrated experience configuring and provisioning cloud security tools and services
• Demonstrated experience configuring Microsoft Entra ID.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5+ years leadership experience in cybersecurity or related technical field.
• Technical certifications in Microsoft Azure.
• Demonstrated experience configuring Azure VPN Gateways, Azure Monitor/Log Analytics, and other Azure security tools and services.

Requirements

• Must be within driving distance of Lorton, VA OR willing to relocate there.
• Must be willing to work onsite
• Must be willing and able to travel up to 10%
