Job summary

Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital is seeking a dedicated Cleaner to perform routine cleaning and disinfection of patient-care areas, offices, corridors, waiting areas, restrooms, and common spaces. The role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, prolonged standing, and adherence to safety and privacy protocols.

Full-time position with multiple shifts, including weekends and federal holidays. English literacy is essential to understand work and safety instructions and to complete necessary training and VA

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning and disinfection of patient-care areas, offices, corridors, waiting areas, restrooms, and common spaces.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors, carpets, mats, and other assigned surfaces.
• Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms, including toilets, sinks, fixtures, dispensers, and floors.
• Collect and properly dispose of trash, recycling, and designated waste according to hospital procedures.
• Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces and respond to spills and other environmental-cleaning needs.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

• Perform routine cleaning and disinfection of patient-care areas, offices, corridors, waiting areas, restrooms, and common spaces.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Previous janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, or environmental-services experience preferred.
• Must be physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and performing prolonged standing, walking, and bending.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English sufficiently to understand work and safety instructions.
• Must successfully meet applicable background investigation, security, and VA badging requirements.
• Must be reliable, professional, and willing to complete required VA safety, privacy, infection-control, and job-specific training.
