Job summary

Thorlabs, Newton, NJ, currently seeks an Assembler to join our Mechanics Business Unit and contribute to assembling components and products in a new 3000 sqft cleanroom. You will perform cleaning, inspection and testing, ensuring we meet production schedules with high quality standards.

The role requires attention to detail, the ability to work well in a team, and adaptability to shifting production priorities. Training on equipment setup and record-keeping will be provided as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar position preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong ability to work well in a group atmosphere, and comply with high quality standards.
  • Strong ability to shift from one task to another to address changing production priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and follow written work instructions.
  • Follow all cleanroom procedures to maintain the integrity of the space and the cleanliness of the assembled products
  • Wear cleanroom garb (hair bonnet, mask, gloves, coat, and shoes)
  • Pride in the quality of your work is a must.
  • Assemble components and products of varying size and complexity that includes cleaning, inspecting and testing of assembled components and assemblies.
  • Meets the expected production schedule.
  • Be a great teammate by both asking and answering questions when instructions are not understood or clear.
  • Desire to learn new skills and become proficient at a wide range of assemblies.
  • Where necessary, set up or calibrate equipment, maintain accurate records, prepare reports for identification purposes such as test reports, and move material to and from work areas.
  • Must maintain a safe and clean working environment through compliance with procedures, policies and regulations.
  • Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.

As an Assembler, you will put together and serve as the final quality check on all products assembled in Thorlabs new 3000 sqft cleanroom in the Mechanics Business Unit. Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:

In addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for:

Physical Activities:

Work may be active, could stand or sit for long durations and/or perform repetitious work at times. The employee may lift or move objects up to 20 pounds. Employees must grasp, manipulate, or assemble parts and components that are often very small. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, may be noisy at times. Must be able to wear appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment such as but not limited to masks, glasses, gloves, and specialty garments. The required PPE and training allow for the safe handling and processing of chemicals like adhesives, lubricants and solvents, and safe operation of jobrelated equipment and tools.

Requirements
Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar position preferred.

Hourly pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00 depending on experience
