Job summary

Citi’s Clean Energy Finance team in New York is seeking a senior professional to lead tax equity origination and credit transfer transactions for Citi clients. You will guide deal teams, leverage industry knowledge, and build relationships with investors and developers to expand Citi’s presence in tax equity markets.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage members of the tax equity origination team in the execution of long‑term, strategic partnerships with renewable energy developers, providing strategic direction, guidance, and transaction execution to achieve origination goals and objectives.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive origination strategy to identify, evaluate, and secure tax equity financing opportunities with developers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with institutional investors, developers, project sponsors, and other key stakeholders to source and negotiate tax equity financing opportunities.
  • Originate the associated tax credit transfer transactions, identify investors, and drive execution.
  • Prepare and present financing proposals, financial models, and presentations to senior management and investment committees for approval and funding.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture within the tax equity origination team.
  • Work with the portfolio management team to explore opportunities to repower and optimize existing portfolio of tax equity projects.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as legal, compliance, tax, risk management, and finance to structure tax equity transactions that align with client objectives and regulatory requirements.

The Clean Energy Finance (CEF) team is seeking a candidate to join the origination team that provides tax equity financing and tax credit transfer transactions for Citi’s clients.

CEF has extensive expertise in originating, structuring, and executing financings across various renewable energy & sustainable technologies, including Wind, Solar (Utility Scale PV, Distributed & Residential Rooftop), Battery Storage, Advanced Manufacturing, Energy Efficiency, and Other Emerging Technologies.

Job Description

This role will be instrumental in driving the origination, structuring, and execution of tax equity financings for Citi clients. This professional will lead deal teams, leveraging deep industry knowledge and relationships to expand Citi’s presence in the tax equity and tax credit transfer markets. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in tax equity transactions, strong leadership skills, and the ability to cultivate and manage client relationships effectively. They will also have relevant knowledge and experience working with tax equity, understand federal tax incentives for renewables development (such as PTCs and ITCs), and is familiar with tax equity HLBV accounting as well as the tax treatment of partnership and lease structures. The candidate should have experience selling the related tax credits to corporates.

Specific Qualifications:
  • Experience negotiating and closing multiple tax equity financings
  • Experience closing tax credit transfer transactions
  • Experience interpreting tax opinions for tax equity transactions
  • Extensive knowledge of HLBV accounting
  • Ability to interact with clients (inc. sponsors & developers), Citi relationship bankers, external & internal counsels, independent engineers, and other transaction parties
