Job summary

VALLEJO CITY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking a dedicated Teacher Assistant to support the classroom instructor in a 183-day work year. Responsibilities include attendance records, materials preparation, and supervising students during activities.

The role requires assisting in Reading and Math with individuals and small groups, and helping students develop study habits under teacher guidance. Teaching experience with children is desirable.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Must pass proficiency examination if required by State or Federal guidelines.
• Teaching experience or work with children’s groups is desirable; must meet No Child Left Behind Act requirements.
• Associates Degree or 48 semester units preferred; must meet Act by 2006.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing and keeping attendance records, seating charts, posting grades and distributing instructional materials.
• Supervise groups of pupils on the playground or in small group activities.
• Assist instructor in setting up classroom activities, tutor and encourage students who may have difficulty with daily assignments.
• Work with individuals and small groups in Reading and Math instruction.
• Help evaluate the effectiveness of classroom activities.
• Assist students to develop good study habits by guiding access to resources and adapting materials to individual needs.
• Perform other duties as determined by the teacher.
